We were at the LAND on Wed night and as we came out of IASW around 8pm all the lights went out in that area and then there was a recording over the speakers which to us sounded like a little boy talking and then all of a sudden it started to snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did we miss while we were in IASW? Who was talking and what did they say? :goodvibes

TIA!!! :surfweb:

There is a "Castle lighting Show" that takes about 5 minutes, that was what you heard. The story line is that a little boy is wishing for snow for Christmas. He tells his mom, who basically tells him that if he wishes hard enough and believes, he'll get his wish. Then, the castle lights up with the snow. It's very sweet. You can see it on You Tube. I don't have a link for you, though. I taped it myself from the front row last week.

Ohhhhhhh........thanks so much!!!! We LOVED it!!! :goodvibes But I will tell you; being new to CA and having lived our whole lives in MA (where the winters are cold and snowy)....watching the Californians AMAZED over the snow was a riot. My family was just SO glad THIS snow was #1) not cold, #2) would not last & #3) we did not have to shovel it!!!! :lmao:

I've lived in CA for 20 years now, I still love that the DL snow is 1 not cold, 2 doesn't last, and 3 I don't have to shovel it! :lmao: I do like the snow, but I love going home to no snow. :)

Do they do that every night the Castle Lighting?

Yes, and if it is the same as last year, it's a 3-step process, lighting it a little each time. I'm sure the Times guide will show the times they do the ceremonies.

On a normal fireworks time night (9:25 fireworks) they do a 7:30pm lighting show. We happened upon it after the 6:30 parade and got to sit right at the rope in front of the castle. If you get there about 7:15, you can get pretty close up front in the castle forecourt (the compass star area).

wow I cant believe we missed that last year.. I mean we were there for the snow after the fireworks

Naaa...no one looked stupid!!! But I will say with all the cameras clicking away and all the videographers taping up a storm (no pun intended) you would of thought that a CELEBRITY had arrived not snow!!! :rotfl: My DH, DS and I were just laughing at everyone so thrilled for snow!!!

where does it actually snow? we went last year and missed the snow but did see the lighting of the castle.

They didn't have it listed in the times last year and we kept missing it throughout the night. I was bummed. Only the fireworks/snow was listed (which we went to).

Do they have it listed this year? I don't want to miss it. I love the snow, but it's too last for the LO to stay up.

We were cracking up over that last year. Everyone's reaction to the "snow" was so funny and cute. :rotfl:

I can top that for funny reactions though. When we were in Michigan, we spent one night at The Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. It was in December, and they had the lobby beautifully decorated for Christmas. And they would do a nightly pajama story telling for the kids, followed by "snow" falling in the lobby.

Well, the snow began to fall and ALL the kids and parents were oooohing and aaaaahing over it, and taking pictures. My husband and I were sitting there watching and shaking our heads in amazement!!! Didn't they all realize that just a few feet away, out the lobby doors was about 2 feet of the real deal????? :lmao:

Don't know what the weekday schedule is but on weekends IASW gets lit up at 5pm. The castle lighting happens at 5:30 and 7:30. This year both sides of the castle have lights and the 'snow effect' happens on the Main Street Christmas tree. All the garlands spanning Main Street and trees in the hub get electric LED snow too.

It snows down Main Street into the hub area and infront of Small World. I believe that it also snows in New Orleans Square, where you would watch Fantasmic, but don't know if it snows there during the castle lighting.

OK...let me think...the Parade was at 6:15pm and we headed over to IASW just before the Parade ended. (We were on Main Street in front of the store that does all the silhouettes.) We walked over to SW despite all the crowds still watching the end of the Parade. WE GOT THERE!!! And almost no line for SW!!! DS actually snapped this pic while we waited in the SW queue....

...like the big idiot I am I kept screaming "CHIP & DALE" and they looked right over at DS!!!

We went into SW and as we exited the ride...all of a sudden it got really dark and DH said "I wonder what is going on"...then we hear the little boy's voice wishing for snow...and then the SKIES OPENED UP!!!!

It really was awesome!!!:goodvibes SO if I did my math right I want to say it was just about 7:30pm right outside SW that all this happened!!! ::yes:: I hope everyone gets a chance to see the snow!!!! :goodvibes

Here is DS' pic of the CASTLE!!! :goodvibes

Okay, so that's what we saw last night (monday)! We were on main street around 5:30 and saw snow and I had no idea why it was snowing before the fireworks since i didn't remember hearing anything about this before. We didn't hear the boy talking, because we had just come from DCA so we just walked onto main street and it was snowing! Glad I stumbled across this thread to find out what that was all about since I was totally confused about seeing snow so early in the evening!
