What were some of your favorite films of 2013

I am usually behind waiting for movies to come on my premium cable channels.

So far I enjoyed

Oblivion
John Dies At The End
Beautiful Creatures
Jack the Giant Slayer
Stoker
Oz the Great and Powerful
Star Trek Into the Darkness (saw at the movies)

I am considering going to see Hunger Games Catching Fire since I just watched the first one on Netflix.

I have to say I really enjoyed Jennifer Lawrence so much in "Silver Linings Playbook" which just hit premium cable, so I had to watch "Hunger Games". I have a theater near me which still has "Catching Fire".

You should go see Catching Fire, it's even more impressive on the big screen!

Saving Mr. Banks
Frozen
The Great Gatsby
This Is the End
Monsters University
The World's End
Gravity
The Conjuring
Blackfish
Stoker
Clear History (HBO)

Most Excited About for 2014:
Maleficent
Gone Girl
Muppets Most Wanted
Dumb & Dumber To
The Giver
Into the Woods
Dark Places

I posted earlier in the thread, but today I saw 12 Years a Slave and am posting again to add it to my list of Oscar nominees that I've seen.

That was brutal. I don't need to see it again. It's good, I suppose, although it's hard to use the word "good" to describe it. Rough movie to watch, as you'd expect.

Philomena is still my favorite as far as how much I enjoyed it, but it won't win Best Picture.

2013 was a good movie year and I saw a lot of movies last year.

My favorites were: Saving Mr Banks, Captain Phillips, Gravity, and Frozen.

Really good: Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, Monsters U, Star Trek ID, The Hobbit DOS, Thor DW, and the Lone Ranger (It got terrible reviews but I really enjoyed it.)

Good: OZ G&P, Planes, Turbo, The Heat, Wolverine, and This is the End.

OK: Pacific Rim and Oblivion.

Disappointing (want my money back): Anchorman 2, Pacific Rim, and Olympus has Fallen.

Still want to see: Hunger Games CF and Last Vegas

Mine also in no particular order

The Place Beyond the Pines
Now You See me
The Way Way Back
Prisoners
Gravity
Captain Phillips
American Hustle
The Heat
Dallas Buyers Club

Thor The Dark World
Despicable Me 2
The Conjuring
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
Star Trek Into Darkness
Mud
World War Z
The World's End

I still have several to see included the Place Beyond the Pines, Gravity and Frozen. I really want to see Philomena too.

I saw several movies in 2013 and so far this year. I went by KristaTX's site that list the 2013 movies.

No certain order:

Broken City
Mud
The Family
Gravity
Captain Phillips
Escape Plan
Last Vegas
Nebraska
Out Of The Furnace
American Hustle
The Wolf Of Wall Street

I saw other movies, but these were the ones that I enjoyed the most. We're retired and go the $5 afternoon movies often.

Adding Enough Said. :thumbsup2 Loved. I just love quiet movies. And found myself sighing seeing James Gandolfini on screen. It's a shame.

And really enjoyed that it was the man who saw the lack of integrity and the lack of protection in a woman.

1st place- My new favorite movie is Despicable Me 2.
2nd place- I also really really liked Frozen.
honorable mentions- Captain Phillips, The Butler

You should go see "The Invisible Woman". My friend couldn't eat her nachos because she was afraid she was being too munchy! QUIET movie.

Hmm - The Way Way Back was a quiet movie to me. I mean quietly beautiful - subtle. Doesn't have to have drama to get to the audience. In A World, quiet. But both were lively.

Too munchy. :rotfl2: Cute.

Is it a period piece? Sometimes I'm not too good with them - A Room With A View bored me to tears. Just an example, I've seen many.

Hey wait, is that Ralph Fiennes?

I'll go google. :goodvibes

Saving Mr. Banks
Rush
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Of The Invisible Woman? It was okay, but kind of a downer. It made me want to call Charles Dickens "Charles Dickhead" instead.

It is very much a period piece. You will probably find it boring :). I'm not a huge Ralph Fiennes fan, but you might like it if you are. I think he directed it, too. I can only see him as Voldemort anymore. But I'll have to get used to him as the new Q in the James Bond movies!

I have to say, Wolf of Wall Street was my favorite. Loved it. The nudity, foul language & drug use fit the movie so it didn't put me out which normally would be the case. I am hoping Leo sees an Oscar finally. He was great. I really thought he may have a stroke in a few scenes because of the intensity.

We liked American Hustle a lot and I was thrilled with Jennifer Lawrence's nominations until I saw Julia Roberts in August Osage County. She & Meryl were great! Wow.

Captain Philips was good too. I actually got seasick during the movie which was odd considering I was in a movie theater!

Loved
The Way Way Back
Man of Steel
Safe Haven
42
This Is The End
Red 2
Saving Mr Banks

Thank you. :goodvibes I am not a huge Ralph Fiennes fan. Barely got through The English Patient.

He was pretty good in The Constant Gardener though. :thumbsup2 I just adored Rachel Weisz in that movie and the book. Had no clue on the bold, interesting.

(His brother is a little more interesting to me. ;))

I mean Ralph Fiennes will be M, not Q. Ben Whishaw has taken over as Q. I just got my letters mixed up in my haste.

If you haven't watched Skyfall, it's worth a viewing. But I'm a big James Bond fan. Skyfall is one of my favorites, but it's the only one with Daniel Craig that I've liked. And it was the first one in a couple of decades that I liked the song from.

No I haven't seen it, Krista. I should. :thumbsup2 I was very close minded about seeing Daniel Craig as Bond and was surprised when I had no issue with the changeover.

I've already talked about 12 Years a Slave, but I'm going to again.

I didn't cry during the movie; I think I sat there more in shock. But I cried tonight at dinner in a restaurant just telling my husband about it. Then he cried. That one is going to stick with me, and probably deserves the win - at least out of the movies I've seen so far.

Not many movies make me cry days later as I'm just telling someone about it. The only one I can think of that could have was "Life is Beautiful".
