What WDW Resort has the least number of rooms/most number of rooms

Well I'm sure others are better at knowing the exact numbers, but I'm thinking when Pop Century opens up its first half, it will probably be the largest, at around 2800 rooms. There's a bunch of resorts that have around 2000 each, like each of the All-Stars, Caribbean Beach, the Dolphin, Port Orleans Riverside, and probably Coronado Springs. The least probably goes to one of the Disney Vacation Club Resorts added on to a regular resort, like the Beach Club Villas or Villas of the Wildnerness Lodge, at around 200-300 rooms each.

Port Orleans is the largest (riverside and French Quarter together) unless you count all three of the All-Stars together.

I believe the Villas at Wilderness Lodge has the fewest rooms.

This information is in my new "Unofficial Guide":

All-Stars (combined) - 5760
AKL - 1307
BC/YC (combined) - 1213
BC Villas - 282
BWI - 375
BW Villas - 517
CBR - 2112
Contemp - 1041
CSR - 1965
Dolphin - 1466
Ft Wild homes - 410
GF - 900
OKW - 709
Poly - 853
Pop Cent - 5760
POR - 3056
Saratoga - 552
SOG - 596
Swan - 758
WL and Villas - 728

Minor corrections -

CSR is (as far as I know) 1957 rooms

POR and POFQ combined have 3056 - 2048 at Riverside and 1008 at French Quarter

and 728 is the total for Wilderness Lodge alone - the additional 136 at the villas bring it to 864

I'm going to memorize this list as a gag on DH who'll think I'm really off my Disney-obsessed rocker! He used to think I had too much time on my hands because I knew the square footage of the rooms at AKL! LOL!

Hey folks,

According to the Disney Meetings website (link below), the CSR has 1,921 rooms. Other websites list the actual number of rooms at anything from 1,921 to 1,967 (here on the DIS). If we say "around 1,950" I think that's as close as we're likely to get.

According to the DIS, the total number of rooms at the WLV is 181, meaning the total number of rooms at the WL and Villas is 909. If we say "around 900," that's probably close enough, no?

Thanks for the corrections, cigar95. I'll post these on the website shortly.

Len

This site also lists 1,967 rooms in the CSR, where Disney lists 1,921. My guess is that as resorts undergo periodic rehabs, the number of rooms gets changed slightly. The difference for the CSR is probably irrelevant for almost everyone. The Wilderness Lodge correction should be made, though, as that's an important distinction.

Thanks again, Cigar95.

So, the answer is........?

BWI smallest non DVC resort

Pop Century largest non DVC resort when 1st half opens

How is it that one half of PC can have 50% more rooms than one AS if they have the same # of bldgs and floors??

From the Walt Disney World Cast Portal on Coronado Springs:

Rooms: A current total of 1,921 guest rooms and suites

Historical Note: Originally opened with a total of 1,967 guest rooms and suites in the following resort phases:

830 rooms - opened to guests on August 1, 1997
300 rooms - opened to guests on August 5, 1997
837 rooms - opened to guests on November 14, 1997

Not quite sure what happened to 46 rooms? Perhaps it was turned into special events areas.

Pop Century buildings have 4 floors, All-Stars only have 3.

Len, I've seen 136 for VWL from a number of (reputable) sources. If someone said 132 or 139, that could just be a case of conversions involving "lockoff" rooms, but 181 would be a pretty big discrepancy, and I haven't seen that figure anywhere other than DIS.

If it were up to me, I'd go with the 136.

Edited note - Len, I see that the Birnbaum Guide also lists 181 rooms. So now I'll change my tune - it could well be either one.

And since I'll have plenty of free time on my next trip, guess what? I'm going to go to the Villas and count doors! I probably won't get exactly 136 or exactly 181, but I bet I don't get 158 or 223.

Is it meaningful to group several resorts together?

Somehow I think resorts should be listed separately taking into account factors like:

1. Facilities within walking distance (POR and POFQ are not while two neighboring All Stars are barely)

2. Separate or combined check in areas (Will the completed Pop Century have one or two of these?)

3. I guess that combined bus service should not be a factor since that would lump together Grand Floridian and Contemporary.

4. May be an interesting point of distinction -- whether use of the swimming pool(s) is considered disallowed pool hopping.

Hi folks,

I got my hands on a copy of the 2003 Official Disney Travel Industry Reference Guide, which lists the number of rooms at each resort. I've posted corrections to the Unofficial Guide's website (see sig below).

There are, apparently, 181 rooms at the WLV. Other than that, our totals were short by 91 rooms at all of the rest of the resorts combined.

Thanks very much to everyone that posted on this thread, including the OP!

Sincerely,

Len

I'm a DVC owner at VWL, and my offering statement clearly indicates that there are only 136 rooms at VWL.

Hey jel0511, does your offering statement say when it was printed? I'll take this information to someone in Disney for clarification.

Advancing the frontiers of Disney resort knowledge, hand in hand.

Rooms at DVC resorts can be counted in more than one way, because they can be used in more than one way. Many of the 2-bedroom suites are literally a 1-bedroom suite together with a studio; this is called a "lockoff". At any given time some lockoffs will be used as a 2-bedroom and others will be used as two separate rooms.

If you count all lockoffs as one room, you get one answer, if you count them as two rooms, you get another answer. Neither is right or wrong.
