What Was Your Worst Character Greeting Moment?

We worried about him the rest of the day, as my hubby was the only person that had some sort of medical training. Not even so much as a thank you - but DH would have replied, "just doing my job."

I {heart} my soldier.

What a wonderful and amazing thing for your DH to save a CM's life. I'm sorry he didn't even get a thank you from WDW! You would think that would have at least merited a handshake from someone or maybe a free Mickey Head Ice cream bar!

popcorn:: Great stuff here.

Reading these posts and seeing some of the pictures is it just me or does anyone else think Peter Pan should be a "mask" character instead of a "face" character? From the pictures alone he creeps me out, I can only imagine him in person.

I am enjoying this thread too!

Interesting about PP showing up in multiple posts. I have to say we were there three years ago. . .so I am sure this was a different Peter. But he and Wendy were both adorable. They had a great conversation with my two 6-year-olds. They really thought they had stumbled on to the "real" Peter and Wendy. Three years later, both of my kids still remember it. We love all of the characters. . .but for us, this was a great moment with characters who could actually talk with the kids.

Some interactions we've had... I think the character interactions at CP were the worst. That place is a madhouse. We actually have a really good Aurora interaction... she took her time with my girls and was very interactive. My DD7 asked her what kind of shoes she had on and Aurora replied, "why, dancing shoes, of course!" and showed her her shoes. She the proceeded to give my girls a little dance and twirl lesson and spun them around. It was very cute!!

I think the step sisters were the best interaction we've had at 1900 PF. Prince Charming was wonderful - he asked my DD7 to dance, and she replied, "I can dance, Aurora taught me how!" It was too cute.

The worst one wasn't a bad character, it was the situation we were in this past trip in September. Just through the entrance of MK was a line for Pinocchio. There is a cart there in the corner, and the man that was working it passed out. My husband went over to help (he's combat lifesaver certified) and I stayed in the line with my girls to keep them occupied while Dh performed CPR on the guy. No paramedics showed up... a huge lack in communication with people, but Pinocchio was great at keeping the kids occupied while the area was closed off and the CM attended to. He ended up being fine, had a heart attack we heard later. Scary. Older gentleman, too. We missed out on most of our fun that day, because DH was worried about the guy. Some security people took him behind closed doors, wouldn't allow my DH to accompany him, and still no paramedics had shown up. We worried about him the rest of the day, as my hubby was the only person that had some sort of medical training. Not even so much as a thank you - but DH would have replied, "just doing my job."

I {heart} my soldier.

I "heart" your soldier too! That is an awesome story. It's nice to hear about someone caring so much about others. Thanks to your DH for his service.

Worst ever - Goofy at Disneyland - my DD was 4 and we were close to Roger Rabbit's Toonspin - we were walking and my DD turned and walked toward me saying look it is Goofy - only to be plowed down by him - skinned knees and crying, my little one was left laying on the ground without a single sorry or anything. I wanted to knock out the cast member.
Nothing as bad at WDW - we had Mickey bypass my youngest DS 18 mo at Chef Mickey - he high fived him and kept walking over to a group of teenage girls. Very odd because all the other characters stopped and played in their rotation.
We have had lots of positive that help to offset the bad. Honestly I try to look for the brightside, it is too easy to be negative.

I don't have a bad experience to tell about, nothing more than a couple of rushed characters, but we did have a really fun time with Handy Manny, surprisingly.

DS who was just under 3 was throwing a huge tantrum, on the floor, crying and kicking. We were in the Animation Studio thing at DHS. I was trying to get him up, and Handy Manny came over and started tickling him. At first he was still being cranky, but then he started cracking up and giggling. The photopass guy took a bunch of pictures, and I took a few of my own.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to post pictures so I can't show you, but it was really cute.

We were talking to Snow White on our last trip a few weeks ago. If I had to listen to her for another second, I was going to pull my hair out. She sounded very whiny, nasily, and I am glad that interaction was very quick. My kids couldn't understand her. I know she was trying to talk in character, but she needed some work.;)

Oh I almost forgot the time when I was 12 and I went to WDW with my family. We were the first ones at Mickeys house in Toontown so we got a personal tour of Mickey's house, by Mickey. Well my younger sister and cousin who was very short at the time, even though she is the same age, got to hold hands with Mickey and he turned his back to me and ignored me the whole time. I was tall for my age, and Mickey must have thought I was too old, but I felt so ignored. At one point he even stepped on my foot. My parents have the whole thing on tape too.

We've been skipped a few times at character meals but I ALWAYS ask the server or go find the handlers and inform them as soon as I realize it. And we've always seen everyone before we left. I know it's hard for them to see and probably hard to keep up with who they have seen and who they haven't. So I speak up when I need to.

Now, at the Plaza Inn Breakfast in Disneyland this January, we nearly didn't get to see Chip after asking three times. We came in for a late breakfast and they seated us waaaaaay back in the corner on the side that only had a few people left. We had some great characters there that came multiple times and played with us and were great. Except Chip. He skipped us back there so first I asked our server. He said he'd be coming. I see him come back out but doesn't come to us. So then I went and found a handler and asked them. Nothing. We're done eating, ready to go, the breakfast crowd is closing down and I've asked twice. At this point I would have forgotten it but DD6 really wanted to see him. So DH and DS head out and I take DD over to the handlers, who were all on the other side that had more people in it and stand there and ask again. They give each other this look that I know means "is he coming back?" and say he is but I'm not convinced. I'm trying to figure out a way to avoid the tears. We stood right there by the door for another 5 minutes and he finally comes out. When he came out, he was great. It really wasn't his fault, in my mind, but the handlers.

All in all, our experiences have been good. We've had good Auroras. Enjoyed the Mad Hatter both at DL and WDW. And we've had some that have gone over the top in making our day special.

2 yrs ago we saw Mary Poppins in the Judge's Tent...she was NOT the chipper Mary that we expected...she barely smiled or said a word. My mother in law noticed too, and after we left commented that Mary was not perfectly perfect in every way!

This wasn't mine personally, but a did hear from someone ahead of me in line as they walked by that when Goofy bent over for a picture, he ripped one. Not sure if it was true or not, but it just shows that characters are human too - sort of:thumbsup2

Ours was waiting for Buzz and then he had to leave with one other person ahead of us to take a break. My ds was two at the time. We waited and let ds run around while we took turns in line. Then Buzz was back and ds cried when we went to take a pic. Figures!!!:rotfl2::confused3

The worst interaction was on our Honeymoon in 1996. We ate at the WL for breakfast and Pocahontas (sp) came by our table to sit with us. Well she looked like she had just stepped out of the movie. I could not believe how much she really looked like her.

So I commented on how much she looked like the cartoon and in her SNOOTY voice says "Well I would hope so!":scared1:

Well I was quite taken back by her remark. We took a few photos but I will always remember her but not for the good.

I think I've met her! I was at the WL Pocahontas breakfast the same year. I went with my brother's family. My niece was like 5 at the time. Pocahontas comes over and my niece was so excited. Kept telling Pocahontas how pretty she was, how much she loves her movie and songs, etc. etc. My niece can talk! Pocahontas answers snottily, "Yes, a lot of people do.":confused3 She then kind of rolled her eyes and started walking away. My brother asks to take a picture. Poca obliges with little enthusiasm. Well, the niece was ready to talk some more to Poca. She asked her if she sleeps in the Wilderness Lodge. Poca looked at her like she had 2 heads and snapped "Of course not." No smile, nothing. Niece didn't seem to realize she was getting snubbed by Poca so we let it go, but I will never forget her! She was gorgeous and did look exactly like Pocahontas, which is why she probably got the job, but she truly did not have the personality to work with children.

I haven't had terrible character experiences like some of you have. I was a little dissappointed at CP last year. We brought a Winnie the Pooh Book with the original stories in it by AA Milne for the characters to sign. For some reason Pooh took offense or something to this. He didn't want to sign it. He was trying to get his handler to intervene (or this is how I took it since Pooh wasn't talking) and when she didn't he signed and tossed the book back on the table it was really very strange. My kids were older at the time 8 to 13 and none of the characters wanted to pose for photos. Strange intereations at that meal.

The other one I can think of that was not 100% magical was at 1900 Park Faire the Mad Hatter was right in character attentive to the kids etc everything as great except that he had bad breath- you know like he really needed a good dental cleaning and some prescription mouth wash.

:scared1:

First of all: LOVE this thread.
Second: To tell you all about a bad character moment I first have to tell you about one of the best.
Last July,my friends and I were at WDW for our Senior trip. One day at Epcot a Cast Member tells us that if we ask Mary Poppins to say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards, she will. Later on we were walking by the England pavillion and there's Mary! So we get in line to try out the CM's tip and it was absolutely true. She said it without missing a beat, we all got very exited. :jumping1: Here's a link the to video of it you'd like to see ;) (I just uploaded it on youtube.)

Here's the sorta bad (more disappointing) character moment. I wasn't present for this one but my friends told me about it. It was a few days later at DHS's Animation Studios and Mary Poppins was there with two penguins. My friends, who where there, wanted to try the "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious backwards" thing again but when they asked her she simply turned around and said supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. While I admit it was a cleaver way to respond for someone who doesn't know how to say the word backwards, my friends were very disappointed. I remember one of them even said she would have preferred to take a picture with just the two penguins. :upsidedow

Thanks for posting the video! And that is so impressive that she can do that. I'm going to have to try that next time I see Mary!

mine was not the character but the handler. my first day of my trip in MK I decided at like 5 that I hadn't met a single character and I wanted to wait in line for pooh and tigger. it was brutally hot and sunny and we waited as pooh took hunny breaks every like 10 min. well the handler announces he is not coming back and that we will just have tigger. this mom in front of us in line starts telling everyone they need to move faster so her daughter has a chance of seeing pooh. well it doesn't happen.

so i get up and while im taking photos with tigger the handler explains to my mum that pooh has clothes on and that tigger is "naked" so he can stay out longer. well my mum thought she meant the person inside was naked and im taking pics and hugging tigger. she was like omg tigger is a perv!!! im like mum, she mean that pooh wears that red sweater and that tigger is just a suit!:lmao: its still cracks me up to think my mum thought the person inside was naked and that the cranky handler actually said that. we also had a handler the last day who was fanning people and like fluffing their collars and picking off lint, it was odd.

Neither are real bad experiences, but just expierences that need to be shared lol.

2008, 1900 Park Fare @ GF and we kinda felt that Mary Poppins wasn't exactly english, like didn't have much of an accent really, at all. I can't remember exactly what kind but it wasn't english. Pic of Me, my fiancee (who I proposed to on this trip) and the Mary Poppins in question.

Not really a Character experience as it was a CM one, surprised to not see any Star Wars Weekend stories but the one time I went, 2008 as well. There was one lady who ran the character line by Star Tours/Tatooine Trader with Luke, Leia and rarely R2D2. She just seemed really short with people, like always very angry. Like she had let me in at one point, when they had cut off the line and forgot she did and accused me of sneaking in, I think I was getting my picture with Luke and Leia and went back one more time to get a picture when R2 and Leia was there...BTW awesome picture of me, leia and r2.

Only would of been more perfect if I was dressed the part. Had my picture taken with her on 3 separate occasions, first time just her. 2nd time I went to get a pic w/ Luke but she was there so visit 2 and visit 3 was cause of R2. May of thought I was stalking her lol but you can see the first one is a clear different leia than the other 2. The 2nd one was perfect, kind of rejuvenated the geeky Princess Leia crush.
