What was your niche in high school?

I hung out with the stoners. It was the 70's, what can I say? I had potential to get good grades but was all over the place depending upon how much I liked the teacher / class. I was not athletic in the least. In fact, I was always last picked in gym class when they were choosing sides. I was probably a little bit of a follower. I try really hard not to let DD repeat my mistakes. Thank goodness she has her father's temperament / level headedness.

Stoner,unfortunately.

But it was the late 70's-early 80's.

I'm much better now.

in Grade 9 i was solidly in the "geek" category (Picture bill gates as a geek :scared1::scared1:). I went away for the summer, met some interesting people, and came back solidly in the punk/weirdo category.

On the first day of school, one of the poeple that was always making fun of the "geek" was sitting in front of me.. she turned around and commented that i reminded her of someone but that person was a complete nerd, and i was solidly cool. that was after only 3 minutes in her presence with no other communication.

:rotfl:

It's amazing how a change in clothing/hairstyle can change people attitude perception.

Ahhh I'm 40 and was around seaside from about 1986-90, a Glitter girl was a girlie girl with big hair and lots of makeup who went clubbing, but we didn't do the whole hook-up thing, it was all about dancing with our girlfriends. Think Pink's song 'You + ur hand", I was not to be trifled with. I carried bublegum pink glitter lip gloss at all times along with hairspray and a portable curling iron, wore Liz Claiborne perfume & heels and had a huge leather purse that I got from Caesars Bay Bazzar in Brooklyn :rotfl2:. We were called Glitters to distinguish us from the Rocker Chicks even though I only listened to Heavy Metal on my own. What I was called depended on who I was with. I am from New York so the names were probably locally grown. Funny memories.

Thanks for the explanation. I guess we thought of "you" as preppies, but I'm not really sure if that's even the correct term. I was in Seaside '84-'88 or so. Ah, those were the good old days.

Oh Lord, did you bag have fringes on it? :lmao:

I was a brain, but I didn't hang out with the nerds. I hung out mostly with some drama geeks, and few of the on-the-fringe popular kids.

I just kind of existed :confused3

That was me. I was actually an outsider. I moved from another part of town right before high school started. I was never really accepted in my school. You had to be in a clique. If you weren't in a clique, you wasn't friends with anyone who was because you were beneath them. None of my friends were in cliques, but were all outsiders. I met my best friend our senior year. She later told me that she was told by several people not to be my friend. Tells you what kind of school I went to.

I hated it and refuse to go to any reunion.

I was Freaky Grade-Skipping Girl who nobody knew because I took all upper level classes instead of the ones my grade-mates took. It was a pretty small niche.

My high school only had 300 kids and my grade 12 class was very small at 50 people so everyone got along with everyone but I was a band geek, but class president, av club president and had the highest gpa in the school. Though I wasn't considered very popular unless people wanted homework help , which I always gave. I was voted most helpful in school.
I'd label myself the overachiever in high school I guess lol

Nah, I love you guys. High school were the worst years of my life.

Thanks for the .

Sorry high school was so bad for you Snap. I'm sure there are many people who feel that way. I had someone pass a comment to me at a recent high school get-together that a nickname I apparently had given her in high school (of which I have no recollection) really hurt her feelings and bothered her. I felt terrible and what made it worse was the idea that she carried that around with her for 26 years. Believe me, I wasn't a mean girl by any stretch of the imagination. I was too 'average' to be popular and had no 'power'. It's just such an awkward time for so many. Not sure how/where you fit in. :sad2: My DD will be starting high school next year and I really feel for her.

I was a shy artsy-type.

I was never into sports, and I wouldn't be today, but I tell DH all the time that if I went back today, I would be the popular, life of the party-type!

Proud Band Geek but I also got to hang out with the cool kids since my best friend wa one of them and I dated her brother who was king of the jocks.

Band/choir nerd/cheerleader and hung out with everyone form the cool kids to the surfers, kickers, stoners, whiz kids and Molly Ringwald wannabes.
