What was your major in college?

My university received a 55 million dollar grant to put BSWs into DCS (one university in every state got this grant.) When we apply to the major, we can apply for the grant job, and we sign a two year contract at DCS.

But its true that the MSW or MSSW is the really powerful degree. I mean, you can have a private practice with that one. :confused3

Wow! Wonder if I can talk my DH into moving whever you live?:rotfl:

I have a BA in women's Studies. Go ahead, laugh. I've been gainfully employed since I was four months out of college, got great work experience while at my alma mater, and stand out from a pack of psych majors. I have friends with degrees that sounded realistic (like physics) who struggle to find a job.

Sounds like a great degree to me:wizard:

Double major of Psychology and Sociology, minor in Women's and Gender Studies.

This is what my education counselor kept trying to push me to pursue a major in. She said I would have better luck landing a job as a sicial worker by taking tthat route:confused3

I'm not in social work, but close. I started out working in financial aid at a public university as a FA Counselor, but when we moved I started working with child support and am now a case manager. It's part of DOJ in my state, but we work closely with DHS and Child Welfare, and I'm sure I could move to a different agency like that if I wanted, though I prefer the more legal aspect of what I do to social work like what Child Welfare would entail.

I do think the degrees are applicable to what I do, especially in the sense that they help me understand and relate a little more to my clients and their circumstances. But there are many, many places "less lucrative" degrees like psych and soc can take you...I'm not going to get rich with those degrees, but I also haven't had any problems finding gainful employment where I'm actually using them, either.

Currently pursuing an Anthropology degree.. the college I'm transferring to offers a BS or BA, so I'm just trying to figure out which one I want to go for. :)

I started off as an Elementary Education major but very quickly changed it to Secondary Math Education. I'd like to get my masters at some point but I'm not sure what to major in for that. My plan is to get my school system to pay for it 6 credits at a time.

BS in Secondary Education Social Studies 7-12
Masters in Special Education 7-12

I use both degrees each and every day!!!:cool1:

BS in Botany. :-) Seems like a rare one haha

Your district pays for your masters degree. I have never heard of that before, lucky you.

I have my teaching degree in Elementary Education with my major being psychology and minor being Sociology.

I chose to be a substititute teacher because it worked for me wanting to only work part time while raising the boys.:thumbsup2

BA-Early Childhood Education (I have some hours towards a masters degree but never found the desire to finish. Life took me in a different direction.)

Broker's license in Real Estate

Me: Accounting
DH: Political Science + paralegal certificate + MBA

I majored in sociology and psychology for my bachelor's degree.
I have a MSW, with the full LCSW licensure.

I work for the Veteran's Adminstration. The VA is hiring tons of social workers. But they won't look at you without a masters degree.

A BSW will get you through the MSW faster. But a major in psychology , or sociology works too.

I have both my BS and MS in Chemical Engineering, but i work as an environmental engineer. DH has his BS in Business and is the Financial Officer for an engineering firm.

Me: Biology, Biopsychology and Cognitive Science, and Anthropology-Zoology (yes, I triple majored, but it wasn't nearly as impressive a feat as it sounds)

DH: Classical Archaeology and Classical Civilizations

I eventually want to work for a Veteran's facility. We live on base now and there are a few openings here for a BSW working with Deployed members and member's family that are dealing with PTSD.

Me: Bachelor of Music Education & Percussion Performance

DW: Bachelor of arts in Dance Pedagogy & and Early Childhood Education

I have a BA, double majoring in English Literature and Communications, with a minor in Geosciences.
