What was your FIRST pet?

I had 3 fish, won them all at the fair!

I had a turtle. I don't remember what his name was. We got a dog when I was three.

My children grew up in a house with dogs and cats already established. Their own first pet were guinea pigs about 7 years apart. (They're also seven years apart in age.)

I don't count the one day pets like snapping turtles found in the back yard, strange insects caught in the bug keeper, frogs, toads, or lightning bugs. They were all looked at for a day then let free in the back yard.

I checked fish - but they didn't really count. They always went to heaven in about 2 - 6 months. And they didn't communicate with you.

Our technical first pet was a parakeet. This guy loved to stand on our finger - and made it past a year.

We've had dogs ever since.......

they lived in the attic above our garage - when they got large, they were carted off to the Van Saun Park Zoo....

My family had a cat, dog and turtle when I was born. The turtle out lived them all, his name was Myrtle and I would say it was the first pet I ever cared for.

Same here. The dogs were Pulis, the cats were the usual domestic shorthairs.

When my daughter is born, she'll have two pet cats.
