The year was 1983 and it was a Radio Shack TRS-80. No mouse, no disk drive even. I had to store programs on cassette tape. Yes, that's cassette tape like the tapes you used to play in the car. I remember going to Radio Shack and buying games and such on cassette tape. It was hooked up to a 13 inch television for display.
Then, in 1987, I got my first PC. It was an XT and had a whopping 20 meg hard drive. And I had the extra special EGA monitor. At least I had color.
I also remember installing Windows version 1 on that machine with 5.25 floppies. I still had no mouse so it wasn't as user friendly as it is now. I uninstalled it.
I remember, in college, ooohing and aaahing over someone that got their second meg of RAM for their machine. That was a LOT back then.
