What was your first car?

I got this in 1987, when I turned 17 (driving age in NJ)

It was a 1978 Mustang midnight blue with a tan vinyl top (Landau roof?)

Now, its a classic and wish I still had it. Then it was just old. And the vinlyl roof is the type of roof that old ladies had...

It was a V8 and kicked BUTT!

The first car I bought (not borrowed from parents) is my current car a Honda Civic :)

1976 Dodge dart!!LMBO!!! The front seat was all caved in and everytime I hit the breaks - I was in for a supprise! they locked most of the time. As my father was famous for : it was a cream puff:rolleyes:

A very ugly green 1970 Ford Maverick. With a lovly black and white PLAID interior. Stylling!!!

A very ugly, very big 1972 Chevy Impala. It was a light yellow with a brown top. My first new car was a Buick Skyhawk hatchback that had a big red bird on each side. The car was a lemon and was in the shop more than I drove it. It had 3 transmissions by the time it was 2. It was towed in the day I bought it. This was before the lemon law.

A 1969 Chrysler Newport. It was green and my friends called it "The Tank" because of the color and size. You could fit the whole football team in the trunk.

I hated that car.

A '69 Emerald Green Chevy Camaro. :) I loved that car, my older brother gave it to me for my 16th birthday. He bought it from a neighbor who didn't know a thing about cars for a steal, rebuilt the transmission, and wrapped in a big red bow for me to wake up to on my birthday. :) I had it all through college and put about 250,000 miles on it before it finally bit the dust.

My parents bought me a Mitsubishi Eclipse when I turned 16, but then they bought me a 2001 Beetle after my Freshman year in college.

1972 Dodge dart with a slant six engine. That car was built like a tank. I almost cried when the engine block cracked and I knew it had to go to the great junkyard in the sky. Would love to have another one.

  You know this for a FACT??

I inherited a 1978 Chevrolet Impala from my parents when they did not trade it in on their next car (this was the mid-80s).

I was very popular on a college campus filled with Toyotas because you could squeeze a lot of people onto those two large seats! :D

Now I drive a mini-van......

My mom bought me a 1980 Pontiac Sunbird when I turned 16. The first car I purchased was a new 1994 Chevy S-10 that future DH and I jointly purchased about halfway through our college years. We traded it in before moving to New York in 1996...*sigh*...I still miss that truck!

I also had a TANK. It was a 1969 Plymouth Satellite. It was teal blue and I could fit 10 of my friends comfortably in it (before seatbelt laws.) We called it a tank because it had "battle scars" on it where it had rusted out and my Dad pop-riveted aluminum siding onto it and put bondo around it so it would pass inspection.

My parents gave me the car to use in 1982 since my Dad had "fixed" the choke by drilling a rod through the dashboard and gluing a penny onto it. You had to open the choke by pulling the penny all the way out and then as the car heated up you had to have the right touch to push it in, slowly so you didn't stall. He and I were the only two people who could drive it.

I learned alot about cars when I was 16. I had to since I always had such a "quality" vehicle. I knew more about fixing cars than any of my male friends. Ah, the days when cars were cars and not computers...

My next car was a 1972 Plymouth Gold Duster that I blew the engine on in 1984. Dad actually replaced the engine with me so I could keep the car for awhile longer, then I handed it down to my brother so I could get a 1976 Gutless Supreme.

My happiest day was when I bought my first NEW car... A 1988 Mazda 323 (I wanted a zippy car instead of the monster-cars I'd had in the past.) It had a stick that I didn't know how to use and I put 250 miles on that car the first night I owned it.

Thanks for letting me reminisce.

I have been pretty spoiled...My first car was a
87 Cavalier....So far the cars I bought have all been brand new..:o

Okay, now don't laugh.....

A 1974 AMC Gremlin, royal blue with a white stripe. That car kept me in the poor house. Anything that could go wrong with a car, went wrong with that car. It did give me an education on car repairs though!

At the same time my sister was driving another Gremlin, and my Dad a Pacer. What where we thinking!!!!!!

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Can't recall the car's year, but it was a metallic gold Pinto for $1200. Not a reliable car, but I thought it was sporty with its hatchback. I thought I'd go camping a lot with that car, but it never happened. After I bought it, I found out it was a firetrap.

I got my first car as a junior in high school (in 1997). It was a 1987 Volvo that had been my mom's car. It had like 190,000 miles on it and didn't have much acceleration, but it got me around. :) By the way, that same Volvo is still going strong--now my grandma drives it!

My parents gave me a 1974 Nova, four door for my graduation. It was butter yellow. I wanted a two door, those were cool, but never liked the four door. The first car I bought was a 1980 Honda Prelude. Stephen and I bought it just before we got married. Not very practical, but cute. Stephen had to open the moonroof and stick the top of his head out if he wanted to sit up straight. In the winter, he just put the seat back a ways.
