What was your favorite experience from a DCL ship?

My first DCL cruise was with my high school graduating class. Nothing too memorable, but to just be there, with no parents, was pretty fun!

This last one, as a college graduation gift (in our family.. you graduate.. you get a cruise!), was with my parents and grandparents. It is fun when you have age ranges from 73 to 23 all there, having fun together. Some of the best memories were after shopping in St. Maarten, we ate lunch on the ship, and my parents and I did an excursion, while my grandparents explored the ship. Well, we were running a little late coming back, and my grandparents were on deck 10, and we were running toward the ship, and we had a conversation from 10 decks away! It was way fun!

Another was when we went to see Twice Charmed, we got the first row in the second section. We have a lot of short people in our group, so this helped alleviate the heads in the way. Well, there were a few seats next to us reserved. Turns out, this special needs boy and his family got to sit there. This boy, Andy, was fascinated by ships, and he went on the bridge tour, and met Captain Tom and everything. Captain Tom was the one who arranged his "special seats". We spoke with the family, found out they were from Canada, and that he works with the Native Indians there. It was very interesting. Anyway, during the entire show, Andy was just amazed. Made me so happy to see him! We saw Andy and his father often on the ship, and we always stopped to talk to each other.

Now, mother and I spent a lot of time at Treasure Katch, because, well, we love jewelry! Cameron, the manager of the store, always saw us and helped us, showing us things (even those not on display :rolleyes1 ). He was just so great and wonderful. The day we docked in Port, he was going back to Australia. He made shopping more fun than it should be!

A member of the cruise staff, Charley, was the funnest guy ever! He hosted a Disney Music Trivia Contest in the Promenade Lounge. He couldn't find the music (haha) and so the piano player for the lounge played some of the music (by memeory!) Well, I ended up winning the contest with a perfect score (you had to know the exact title of the song, and where it came from). I got a medal and a very nice travel mug. Charly asked my name and everything. We would see him around, and he always remembered my name. On the last evening, during the dance party, he talked with me, at length, about a friend who lives near us. Where else can you vacation, where someone who comes in contact with, literally, the entire cruise ship, and still remember your name, and where you live?

Also, our servers, Sammy and Rodie, were the best. Sammy had the best sense of humor. The first night, my grandfather ordered a dessert, and my grandmother said, "Me too!" Well, that apparently was the wrong thing to say, as when the desserts came out, my grandmother received a plate with "me too" written in chocolate syrup! How funny that was! She was 73 and they still did magical things for her. Of course he had the dessert waiting, but it was still great. Sammy and Rodie and our head waiter brought out a cake for my graduation on our last night. It was a gorgeous cake! It was also the best cake ever! They even brought out a congrats pin too. They announced to everyone that I graduated college and was a nurse! He then put icing on my nose! hehe, that was great. Here is a pic of my cake!

That was the best trip ever. The service on the ship is what is making us go back in June (just booked!) for a 4 day double dip. Other places, you can't feel that special. The CMs on the ship literally make you feel as if you are the only guest on the ship.

The absolute best memory was my last night on the ship. We had a little deluxe oceanview statroom on deck 2 and were very close to the water. I literally sat on my little fold out bed for HOURS watching the waves. I loved watching where the ship broke through the calm water, making it turn white. I would watch one piece of white ocean until I couldn't see it anymore. That, right there, was my favorite moment. In the darkness of my room, hearing the little creaks that lulled me to sleep every night like an old rocking chair. I had never had such calmness in my life.

I can't wait to go back in June! I might miss my little ocean view, but we have a navigator's verandah!

I love the stories - thanks for sharing!!

What about cool sightings on the ship - like sea life, storms, celebrities, etc???

I was on a Wonder cruise that I won from a local radio station so I was w/freinds not family. Anyway, we were at the "sailaway" party celebrating and I see TINO MARTINEZ walk by! I was trying to compose myself--my eyes must have expanded 5x the size because he noticed me and gave me a nod!!!

I truly tried NOT to be a stalker, as he was with his family. I did accidentally come face to face with him at the beverage station one morning. I had a "humna humana" moment, composed myself and told him that "WE Miss You!" (At the time he had been traded from the Yankees to the Cardinals.) He was very nice --cute as ever.

**For those of you who do not know Tino Martinez is/was (now retired) a pro baseball player. It was obvious to me that many people had no idea who he was, which is nice for him to be able to go away w/family without people stalking him!:rolleyes1

I just HAD to add another one....

Our first cruise was a land and sea in April 2003. In March of 2003 I landed in the hospital with a life threatening illness. After many hours of surgery and ICU and a week stay I went home. I begggggged my doctor to allow me to go on my trip and he allowed. I had MANY MANY medical items that had to be carried with me. So once on the Wonder I set up my medical stuff and went off to rest at the pool. I was feeling tired so I went to my room. There was a message from Nigi our stateroom host to contact him. I got a little nervous but did so. He came down and asked if there was anything he could do for me. I was a little taken back and he stated "miss lisa - I saw the medical supplies in your bathroom - please let me take care of what you need - you need more tape - you need more bandages - you need more gloves - you call me - you have to let me care for this all for you" I sat there and cried. I explained that my insides had a growth and it exploded causing me to wear a bag on my stomach. He stated he knew about them and would do all the clean up. I would only have to call him when I needed to change my bag and he would come down and remove the stuff immediately and clean and disenfect the room. How amazing that man was to offer that to me - it made me feel wonderful.....

Also on that cruise I saw a beautiful bride walk the top deck with her new husband ( she in her flowing white gown and veil and him in a tux) strolling hand and hand - followed by minnie in her gown and mickey in his tux......the crowd started hooting and hollering and clapping it was soo great....I only wish I had my camera that day!

And finally, laying on the beach at Cataway Cay, looking up in the sky and spotting a hidden Mickey cloud! I am not kidding!! When my husband saw it, he just shook his head and said "only Disney could make that happen!" :)

OMG!!
I saw a hidden Mickey cloud too! I was at Serenity Bay sipping a cocktail w/ my chair firmly placed in the gently breaking waves. I looked up and there it was!! There were other witnesses too!

There are so many great moments...but one of my favorites was with my husband, my brother and I. It was after dinner and there was a sports trivia game. I am no good at trivia, let alone sports trivia, but they both know their stuff, so we thought it would be fun. There were several other groups, all of them with more people and most of them older (we are mid 20's, most were mid 40's). They started asking questions and DH and DB were doing great despite lack of people. I was having a ball sipping on my huge strawberry dacari. I don't hold liquor well, so my face was flushed and I was feely very, very giddy. Anyway, the announcer got to the last question, which would determine which group would win. The question was about football...about some player for the Colts back in the 70's or 80's. As soon as the question was asked, my DB instantly knew the answer. The announcer went around to each table and no one knew the answer. As soon as he got to our table, my DB shouted the answer. All the other groups thought he was wrong. Turns out he was right. DH and DB had WON!

They were awarded a pennant from the Super Bowl that year (2005?) and both got ribbons with medals! I don't know why that moment is so memorable to me. But just me drinking and being all happy...and my bro and my DH kicking butt. Everytime I think about that, it's just a fun, cool, happy memory! And I'm so proud of their sports trivia skills

:surfweb: Whew! Made it throught them all!

I have already mentioned 2 things that came to mind from reading others, but now that I have finished and have wiped the tears, I will add my own!
* First time cruising and pulling up to that beautiful Ship!! There is nothing like her.

*Last day of cruise at CC, just soaking up the sun and the beach and snorkeling w/my DD -when went home school would begin, so I felt like I was saying goodbye to the summer.)always sad for me!

* DS meeting a Cm at CC and spending the whole day with him. He was a Bahamian young man who lived on Cc. DS said he was such a nice guy and they seemed to enjoy listeining to each other and just playing games.

*DD on first cruise, she was 4 at the time-saying she wanted to stay with her freinds like Snow White rather than join us for dinner!

*Minnie showing us all just how to dress for a cruise!

*Serenity Bay with new friends and old, planting our beach chairs in the water and sipping cocktails

*DVC Member cruise and all of the surprises that go along with it!

*Palo

*Cruising again and having CM's remeber you!

.....On our last cruise, DH had brought a picture of Ariel in a frame onboard the ship secretly, to have it "signed" by Ariel and given to DD. She LOVES mermaids and wants really badly to believe they are real. We gave the picture to concierge to get it signed. The next night, we were coming back from the show, and DD (then 8) walked into the cabin, to see the surprise that "Ariel" had left for her on the bed. Ariel had written a note to DD, and signed it "your friend Ariel". There was sparkly confetti all over the bed, and going from the bed to the floor, to the verandah door, and out on the verandah; it looked as if Ariel had jumped onto the verandah, come into the cabin, and placed the picture on the bed, leaving behind "mermaid pixie dust". DD said "I KNEW it was true, mermaids ARE real!". I cried like a baby!

That picture now hangs in my DD's bedroom.

I'm still reading through this thread and many bring a sniffle or two, but this one just sent me over the edge crying tears of happiness and excitement. I only regret not going on a Disney cruise while my kids were still very little. Thankfully, I did take them to WDW at that age.

This may sound weird, but my best memory is when I was on the WB Panama cruise in 05, and having to sleep in the hall to get my pins. That was so cool. Nothing could top that.

It was fun. The merchandise team admited that 500 pins was not enough for the amount of people that wanted pins. I made some really good friends in that line. From what I understand, now when they do special cruises like that, they put an order form in the cabin, and it is one of each specialaly created pin for the cruise per cabin. Well maybe see you on board.

ah, I see. Because last Disney Magic Cruise at Med. that there were plenty pins as I bought it. That why I was concern about it.

Looking forward to see you on board:thumbsup2

Well I later learned that they just were not expecting so many people to want the pins. From what I understand, they have learned their lesson.

I have so many. The first was on our first trip in January on the Wonder. We were upgraded from a Cat 12 to a Cat 6 Verandah handicapped room which was in the aft and HUGE with a walk-in closet and a Bathroom that was three times the size of the normal bathroom.:cloud9:

The next was winning BINGO 3 times on that cruise.:worship:

The next was having a member of our party selected to go up on stage with the comedian juggler. She happened to have an impromptu moment with him where he asked her to toss the ball to him and she threw it baseball style and almost knocked him off of his unicycle! He had to grab onto the curtains so he would not fall off!:rotfl:

The last was eating at PALO twice in the private dining room and doing the brunch. It was amazing!:goodvibes

On our last trip we let our children have a little more freedom since it was their third time and they knew where they were going and what they wanted to do. Well after a few days I walked into Mickey Mates with my DS(10) and all of the CM's kept coming up to us and saying "Hi Zack". I realized then that my son had been spending a lot of time in the store.

The next day was a sea day and we went in the store and my son was talking with one of the CM's that he had become friends with. The CM said he was stocking the store up by the pool and my DS asked if he could help him bring the stuff up to deck 9. I said ok but come find me by the pool when your done. After awhile, when he hadn't come to find me, I went over to the store they have set up by the pool and there was my son explaining to anyone who would listen about pin trading. I told the CM that she could send him back to me anytime she was ready. After another hour or so I went to check again and he was still at it. I talked with the CM from the store and told him that I didn't want him to get in trouble for having this kid hanging around and he said he was fine, he was worried that I would be upset. I told him that it was his vacation and if that was making him happy then he could do it but that we would be snorkeling as a family the next day. He gave me a piece of paper with the name of his friends that work at the snorkle shack and float rental and told me to tell them that he sent us and we would get free snorkle and floats.

My son continued to work in the store any chance he could, they made him a name tag and put him in charge of hiring & firing any other kids that wanted to work. It was so funny to walk into the store and see him behind the counter wrapping packages. My daughter ended up working in the store too and the different CM's kept giving them different pins and sending "Magical Moments" certificates to our room. They had the best time on this trip and can't wait to be back on board in November to work again.

Sorry this was so long!

This is great! I can't wait to go on our first cruise in June! I'm just afraid that the experience won't live up to my now inflated expectations.

What are "Magical Moments" certificates? :confused3

Have to say one other great experience is these Dissboards.

Everyone here helping each other, all giving ideas and assistance to each other, and a nice friendly forum.

This week everyone has been so helpful to new cruisers, and fast to respond.

Don't forget the experience starts here!

Well done all!

Hi All,

Loving this thread and wanted to add a story of our own! :thumbsup2 There are so many wonderful moments, and our kids had a blast, but this is one that really cracked us up, and we will never forget it!

Our DDS 6 came to dinner with us on "lobster tail night" on the seven night cruise last November on the Magic. We all ordered our food, and were

enjoying the company. When our main course arrived and my lobster tail was presented to me, DDS's eyes grew HUGE and his face had a look of utter amazement as he loudly said
"THAT IS THE BIGGEST SHRIMP I EVER SAW!" :rotfl2:
The Server and Head Server were so amused that they brought him his own "shrimp". Oddly enough, he wanted just a little shrimp and not such a "big one.' But we got pictures and he got the same service as I with his lobster tail being cut up and prepared by our Head Server. :rotfl:

Disney really excels in giving each of us the magical memories we deserve. DH and I are taking a three day cruise in less than two weeks w/o kids for his 40th birthday. This thread is really getting us excited about our trip! :worship: BTW, how in the world can you do a three day after doing a 7 and a 10? lol :goodvibes
