What was the WORST Halloween candy you got as a kid?

When I was a kid growing up in New Jersey we got alot of good candy, nothing I dont remember as not liking! :) But i hated getting apples. It seems like we got alot of them towards the end of the night, they weighed down our pillowcases!

One old man in the neighborhood gave popcorn balls every year. We'd tell our father we didn't want to stop there because all we'd get was a "crummy popcorn ball". Well, we'd get a lecture about being ungrateful, how he was a lonely old man...on and on...maybe we should just go home, etc. Years later we found out that the old man gave popcorn balls to the kids, but cold beer to the Dads. Lonely old man, my butt. :rotfl: :rotfl:

:rotfl2: Now that's funny!! :rotfl2: I have to agree that the orange and black wrapped peanut butter kisses are the worst candy ever made. This is the first year that my kids didn't bring a single one of those nasty things home. I remember getting tons of them as a kid. Necco Wafers are pretty nasty too.

my kids came home and low and behold they each had 1 orange and 1 black wrapped yucky candy.....after I was done laughing about them, they went straight in the trash!!

I think it's a thread curse. After posting about my dislike for Tootsie Rolls, my kids arrived home. Care to guess what they mainly received tonight? Ugh!

At least it'll keep me out of their candy bags. :rotfl:

raisins...did they always seem hard??
and I love raisins but never in the mini boxes...

I'm not a bit o honey fan either and I 've never like good and plenty or anything in that sort of line...

hmm, I've never had popcorn balls?? how would you eat them??

Okay, everyone box up those peanut butter kisses (black and orange paper), tootsie rolls, Necco wafers, candy corn, Bullseyes (caramel with white center), Mary Janes and SEND THEM TO ME!! Those have got to be the best collection of Halloween candies ever.

You can have all my Shock Tarts, Sweet tarts, Nerds and such.

P.S. Don't send the popcorn balls, though. You can have those.

So that's what was in those black and orange wrapper things...Never could figure out what they tasted like.

Mary Janes are peanut butter taffy (kinda) with peanut pieces in it. A Dentist's Dream candy.

i do love mary janes but i agree...not so great for the teeth!
i really hated getting those strips of paper with candy buttons attached. there was no possible way to eat them without getting a mouthful of paper! the worst thing i remember getting is wax lips! gross!! what on earth where you supposed to do with those things? :confused3

The things in the orange and black wrappers ARE Mary Janes (or a Mary Jane type)

:earsboy:

I hated Mary Janes and anything that was gummy, like worms, bears. I also hated Good and Plenty. Yuck!

Nope, Mary Janes do not come in orange and black wrappers. They come in yellow, red and black wrappers and have Mary Jane on the wrapper. They are flat and rectangular with peanut butter in the center. Kisses are lopsided hunks of peanut butter taffy with peanut butter in the center. And they are wrapped in orange or black waxed paper. Mary Janes tend to be a little harder than kisses.

I have bought a package about a week ago of the orange and black wrapped candy that ARE Mary Janes( Says so on the package!!). They are made out of the same exact stuff that the regular Mary Janes are..it is just Halloween packaging. Other companies also make these and some are a little softer than the Mary Janes but are still a peanut butter kiss. Even the rectangular Mary Janes have some peanut butter in them..it is just spread out more in the candy instead of just in the center. I think Farleys and some others make these too but I KNOW Mary Janes also have them in the traditional "kiss" wrapping at Halloween time.

I think Mary Janes and peanut butter kisses are made by the same company that makes Necco wafers, it is a New England based company.

Mary Janes have molasses in them also.

I hated getting peppermints! My mom was scared by the whole ToT thing, thinking someone was going to slip a needle or glass into our candy..............so we were only allowed to ToT in my grandmothers neighborhood which was all elderly people.
Only a few houses gave candy and most of those gave Brach's peppermints. Bbblch!

Well, this wasn't candy but one year I received the dreaded apple with the razor blade in it. No kidding! I pulled the apple out of my candy bag (actually a pillowcase) and saw a slit in it. I threw the apple in the street and sure enough a razor blade was in it. Go figure.

Homemade unwrapped popcorn balls...blech. Everything stuck to them.

Easily the worst of the Halloween treats. Whenever I got popcorn balls or apples, they were immediately deposited in the givers tailpipe.

I probably got MaryJanes when I was a kid, but if they were peanut butter I just would have thrown them out. I don't like PB!
