What was the first resort you stayed at?

Dixie Landings , november 1999.

A magical first trip , so nice that we bought Old Key West sight unseen the next summer based upon the posts in the dvc section of this board, and the time we spent at Dixie. We knew that if Disney's moderates were that good, the home-away-from-home resorts must be fantastic !

We were right ;) .

Since that stay we have returned to DxL several times to stay, and stop by there several times each trip even if we are not saying there. I could just sit for hours with my mug full of soda and watch that water wheel turn - it's soo relaxing. BTW, has anyone else ever had the feelin that the soda simply tastes better from the mug ?? I know I do.

Since then , several stays at OKW, single stays at VLW and BWV, and upcoming stays planned at Animal Kingdom Lodge, OKW, and the Beach Club Villas.

About the only place I wouldn't return to is the All-Stars. I did one short stay there by myself some years ago, and it just didn't have the same feeling for me as the other resorts. I'm not knocking the quality - it's typical Disney. I'm just not the "dawn to dusk park commando, only use the room to sleep" type. I actually like the disney resorts unto themselves, and found that once I was clean and fed there was very little left to attract my attention at that resort. Just my opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it . :p

The Villas at Disney Institute, 1984. Back then they were called Club Villa Bungalows.

And they were great! We rented golf carts ($10 a day) to run back and forth to DTD. We just plugged them into outlets that were everywhere while we ate and shopped, then plugged them in when we got backed to the Villa. The villas were wonderful 1 or 2 bedroom units with "kitchenettes" - microwave, frig/icemaker, coffee maker, etc. Lots of room and great water/golf course views. Huge heated pools and great hot tubs. Nice balconies big enough to actually use - one off the bedroom and one off the living room. We walked out our door right to a bus stop. We even had room service delivered by modified golf carts. The Gourmet Pantry would deliver anything you needed while you were at the parks - and put it away for you! The rooms were in units of only a few villas each so you always felt uncrowded with tons of space around you. They always struck me as Disney's trial run for OKW. They were really more like the DVC resorts - without having to buy points. They were an absolutely hassle-free, fun vacation.

I was SO sorry to see them go. Our final stay was in 2000 right before they closed to make room for DVC's new Saratoga Springs. On our next trip, we'll be at OKW. I hope we enjoy it as much.

The first resort we stayed in was CB! We loved it. DH and I had both been to Disney about 4 times and we had stayed off site always. So, we had our first on site expirience together and it was sooo magical.

Both of us had stayed at cheap motels, so now that I think about it, that was the first time either of us had stayed at any sort of resort! Now we laugh becuase we are taking our kids for the first time and my mom for the first time and they are staying on site with us. They will never know what it is like to "suffer outside":p

The 1st resort I stayed at was Dixie Landings (now Riverside). It was in early March 1993. My 1st trip with my husband, and his 1st trip ever. We had a great time, taking advantage of all that the resort had to offer, such as the paddle boats and Old Man Island pool (even though it really wasn't overly warm). We were there for 7 nights and managed all of the parks (Animal Kingdom wasn't open yet) , Typhoon Lagoon and River Country. At that time, early March was still value season, too, so we got a water view room (although it ended up that the view was obstructed by a pillar at Magnolia Terrace, oh well).

We liked it so much that when we returned 4 years later it was a no brainer that we would stay at Dixie Landings again. We decided to try Alligator Bayou and got water view in bldg 14 (didn't even have to request it), which was fantastic.

This year we again returned for a very short stay to our original resort, staying in Parterre Place with a gorgeous garden/fountain view.

Although PO-FQ is really our favorite now, PO-R ( I wish they hadn't changed the name) will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
