Just wondering...
What was the best deal ever offered for AKV points? And what is the current offer? I know I heard some pretty good ones at the Gateway to Dreams events. What was it again, and was that the best?

I'm trying to speculate when I might break down and buy in at BLT. I know they predict it will sell out fast and not to expect incentives like at SSR and AKV, but I just wonder. They're already offering matching developer points.

I think the one that expired Sept. 20th was one of the best I've seen at AKV, and the reason we recently did an add-on. You basically got your choice of the following:

With 100 pt add-on:

100 developer points to use at SSR or Disneyland
$500 Visa gift card
$800 credit to use toward down payment or take in the form of a Disney gift card

With 200 pt add-on:
200 developer points to use at SSR or Disneyland
$1000 Visa gift card
$1600 credit to use toward down payment or take in the form of a Disney gift card

We opted to add-on 200 points and have already taken our developer point stay which ended up costing us $7.95 for a week after using our gift cards to pay for all our expenses (we already had APs).

I can't remember if they ever offered double developer points at AKV but some may argue that is a better deal, particularly if you can rent those points out for cash.

The deals change constantly and if you want to start using your points now then waiting for the "perfect" deal that may never come will keep you from starting to enjoy DVC. Many people have bought in with no incentives and have never regretted it. It really depends on whether the lost time waiting for a good deal is more important that starting the vacations. Its really just a personal choice.

I know. We own points at BWV. We want to add on but don't "need" it until next June (when we would make reservations for the following May.)

I like how some of the offers I've seen included a Disney cruise or Adventures by Disney Vacation. Granted, some of those offers were for buying A LOT of points. We figure were doing at least a 200 point add-on.

I haven't done the math, but we added on during a deal on 200 points that probably ranks right up there:

1. $8 off per point ($1600)
2. 270 developer points (used anywhere, not the SSR-only ones)
3. 2 annual pass vouchers (what's that worth, $800?)

We bought in at the 160pt level this past weekend on our vacation.

Incentives were a 160pt. developer bonus and a $1000 Disney gift card that could be used as a down payment. Didn't really discuss the BLT location, as the wife and I preferred the AKV decor anyway.

Do some places/events offer better incentives than others? For instance, if I just call up a guide, will I get the same incentive as if I toured the property and sat down with a guide there? I would imagine, yes? Do they offer better incentives at the Doorway to Dreams events or the Disney Cruise Line? How about on the member cruise? Any differences?

We bought on the member cruise in '07. We got $700 in Disney bucks,
a statue, a shiny badge, and a free Cat 6, balcony cabin for two, on the next member cruise (2008) which we throughly enjoyed. That was worth more than developer points to me.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking for!

I also found this info about what was offered at the August Doorway to Dreams event:
Incentives for 160 point AKV buy-in:
$8 per point discount (off of $104)
$1280 Disney gift card (which btw CAN be applied to your DVC down payment)
$500 Disney Visa credit
and EITHER - 5 nights at AKV Kidani Village 1 bedroom/Savannah view, bookin available in May 2009
OR
5 nights at Saratoga Springs (up to Magic Season)
And Fastpasses

for 210 point add-on, you can get a 4 night cruise, ocean view veranda stateroom for 2 adults, plus $1000 gift card. oh, yea... and the $8 off per point.

Add-on for 350 points...
$1000 gift card
$8 off
Adventures by disney trip for 2 adults at any of the following locations:
american mid-atlantic
arizona & utah
austria & czech
britixh columbia
california
costa rica
france
germany
southern italy
wyoming
plus VIP seats for the magnificent mile lights festival (on the float in the middle of the parade) only 20 families can fit on this double decker bus... plus
one night stay at the whitehall hotel in chicago

500 points...
is the 350 point level plus...
you can pick any adventures by disney trip... not limited to list above

I would love to see something exciting like this offered for BLT. I know I may just be dreaming...

Anyone heard of any upcoming Doorway to Dreams events? Any speculation? I'm just dreaming anyway! We really are going to add on, but not before next May unless something cool comes along!

So, is it better to buy the membership through the cruise to get more incentives?

It sounds kind of comparable...a free cruise instead of points or free nights at a resort. It depends on your preference. Plus, I imagine you have to be on the cruise to do this, so if you're not planning one...then it really isn't realistic, right?

A lot of people said that they weren't impressed with the incentives at the Doorway to Dreams events either. But I like them, because they're a little more exciting than some of the other options.

If they offered a free cruise or ABD vacation instead of developer points, I'd be more likely to buy. Don't get me wrong, I like the developer points too. It just seems like a lot was offered at the Doorway to Dreams event for example. That makes me more likely to buy. I want something like that!

The adventures by Disney deal is an amazing one. We want to do the Africa safari and the cost if around $13k for 3 people. If you could choose that as an incentive plus get all of theother stuff, I would buy the 500 pts in a heartbeat!!!

When I bought AKV, (250 pts) it was 500 developer pts to use anywhere plus the $500 gift card. I still think that was a pretty good deal.

We bought AKV in March 2008 at Doorway to Dreams. We recieved this incentive:

110 AKV points @ $104 per point
$8 of per point
100 developer points
2007 DEC UY points immediately
2 adult AP's

The current incentive we have been offered are:

AKV points at $104
AKV points at $6.25/pt
matching developer points
2 APs

These points are deeded to Kidani, so they can't be used until May 2009.

where were you offered this at?

I just did my AKV add on at the Disney Vacation Club Travel Show in Rochester and got $8 off per point (selling currently for 104, goes up to 112 in January) and used that as a credit with my down payment. As an incentive for buying the 100 pts I got a three night stay in the new Treehouse Villas at SSR (3 bedroom units). Depending on the number of points purchased add-ons varied from free stays to free land/sea cruise packages. They had a $5 per point credit for BLT.

Getting back to deals offered for AKV:
(Found this in another post... It was offered on the cruise.)

We bought 320 points at $104 per point at the Animal Kingdom Villas and received the following incentives for signing up during the cruise:

1) 2-for-1 developer points
2) $1,000 off every 160 points bought (we received $2,000 off)
3) Use year starting Oct 1, 2008
4) No annual dues until May 1, 2009 (when building is completed)
5) Discounted Closing Costs (cost us $320)

We bought AKV in July 2007. Here is what we got.

Bought 160 AKV Points - at $104 per point.
Received $8 per point discount - So, our actual cost was $96 per point.
Received 320 Developer Points - Use anywhere for the next year.
Received Feb UY which had been sold out prior.

So, a good deal for us. We rented the developer points, which paid for the downpayment and we used the rest for our 4 night Disney cruise later that year.
