Hi all! First time on this particular forum but I was hoping you all could help me...

I'm looking at shoes for our next WDW trip in October (want plenty of time to break them in!)... I have an idea of what I want for good sneakers, but do you all have any good ideas for shoes/sandals for the heavy WDW walking?

Thanks!!

Teva's are very popular for Disney goers. They are very comfy and quick drying. They have water proof ones and non-water proof ones. I suggest breaking them in for a couple of weeks. edited to add... I have the Pretty Rugged leather ones (not water proof but I did get them soaking wet last August and they took a couple of hours to dry). I'm going to buy the Pretty Rugged nylon ones for Disney for the raining days.

I also LOVE my Ecco Cosmos. They are like walking on clouds with no break in time necessary.

I used to always get blisters no matter what I did UNITL I wore only my Teva's or Ecco's. Now I no longer get blisters.

I bought the Teva Terra fi's a few weeks ago from REI.com thanks to recomendations from people here. They are great!! I started wearing them around the house to get used to them and I forgot they were on. The best thing is that REI has them on their outlet page for $43.50. Regular price is $65 or $75, I forget which one. They are waterproof and have a bit of an arch support to them.

I always wear my New Balance shoes. I never have a problem. few feet tips...change your socks once a day and wear the thicker socks. Also, as soon as you feel the tingling sensation, that is the beginning of "PARK FEET" , so hurry and take you some ibuprofen or some sort of OTC pain reliever. :)

Hope that helps!!

If you do alot of walking and or are on your feet most of the time, the comfort of a good running shoe can't be beat. If you choose a good trail running shoe, you will get something that is quite durable and quick drying. Some brands to consider are New Balance, Saucony, Addidas, and my personal favorite Salomon.

Check out Sierra Trading Post for good prices.

For the past few years I have been wearing New Balance walking shoes, too. I have model 573 with velcro and they are perfect.

If you buy them about one to two months before the trip, you will have enough time to break them in without wearing them out.

Some people will get blisters no matter how good your shoes are or what precautions you take, so make sure to take some moleskin, or at least bandaids, with you for treatment of possible blisters.

I love my Merrils. They don't have backs on them but they are super comfortable and never feel like my feet are sliding around in them. The tops are made of a neoprene-type material so they are semi-water proof. I also have a pair of Nike sandals that have passed the Disney test. I've gotten most of my sandals at DSW but that store is more luck of the draw as opposed to going to find a specific pair of shoes

we always purchase a new pair of sneakers for the entire family the week befor we leave, and our feet never have problems or even get tired. And trust me I am a walker (more like a drill sgt.) and we walk the entire day..

A good pair of sneakers that is fairly new or new will work fine. In fact most of us bring 2 pair, and we swap out each day, prevents the feet from wearing/rubbing in certain spots due to the shoes.

I have tried Tevas and Eccos (sandals) but I just can't wear them at Disney.

The only ones that work for me are Saucony or Brooks running shoes.

For me, the most comfortable are Teva Niyati. They certainly aren't the most beautiful shoe, but I had such great luck walking days on end at WDW, with NO discomfort, that I now have three pair!

Personally I would not wear a NEW pair of sneakers around WDW. I always wear a pair that is well broken into and thaat I have worn for a long time. But since my illness 15 months ago, I need an ECV now and can't walk around, so I have no choice. :moped:

investigating foot wear for DH - diabetic with little feeling in his feet and myself arthritis in ankles and foot together with knees back and neck - and wondering how our 8 yr old DGD will be.

I like my birkenstock sandels. My DH likes his Tevas. We won't go without them. I also buy each DD, and DH -2 new pair of tennis shoes about a month before the trip, so that they can be broken in a bit, but still supportive. I only get one pair since I don't wear mine as much.

I used to always get blisters if I wore socks/tennis shoes. I switched over to Tevas a few months ago, and I'll never go back again. I can go around WDW all day long, no matter what the weather, with no issues whatsoever.

My best recommendation is, if you do go for a sandal, make sure it's a waterproof pair. You're either sweating in the warmer months, or ending up on a water ride, or (at least during the summer months) getting caught in a sudden rainstorm. I don't think anything's worse than wet shoes!

I bought new Nike Shoz Turbo for my 1st trip. They were sooo comfy! my 1st pair too! I highly recoomend them to anyone.

I do not think I could take wearing sandals all day at the park. My feet begin aching after about 5 or 6 hours at the park. They get that tingling feeling. Ugghhh

I had always swore by my running shoes, but on our last trip to Florida I bought a pair of Teva Spoilers. Without breaking them in, I wore them for about 14 hours a day, doing tons of walking and still felt like I could keep on going. I found even standing in lines, I couldn't believe how comfortable they were. I found these to be the best walking shoe/sandal that I have ever owned. I ldo alot of walking and never have had such a great shoe.
I recently purchased a pair of Teva Pretty Rugged Leather sandals, and love them as well.
Can't say enough about Tevas!

Try Zappos.com. They have Tevas, Merrills, and a few Crocs. They have free shipping and their prices include tax. I would order several pairs, wear them around the house for a few days, and send back the ones you don't want (Zappos also pays for return shipping). I've ordered from them several times and love them.

By the way, I also love my Tevas (Teva Pretty Rugged Leather sandals, Teva Olawahu flip flops, and Teva Mush flip flops). The only Tevas I've found uncomfortable are the Teva Hurricanes. They just don't fit right.
