Ok just to set you straight regarding MD11 and DC10. They are the same thing. When MacDonald Corp and Douglas Corp merged in the 80's they went from naming them DC's to MDs hence DC10=MD11 (There was a modification of the aircraft making the reason for the 11 instead of 10). Also the DC-8 = MD80s and DC-9 = MD90s.
i don't know actually - i've never seen the plane he flies....as i recall, he said it's an MD11 but i'm not sure.....he said it holds a lot of cargo, whatever it is...
he flies cargo in Africa.....which he says he loves....he loves not having to deal with human cargo - too demanding...
regarding the airbus, i've flown the 320 domestically and the 330 internationally......I've flown the A330 on Northworst's detroit-amsterdam route....(i only fly that route when i fly with my mom)....
i HATE that plane....and i hate the 320s that i've flown in around the US...
inside the US I tend to fly northworst, since i'm usually starting from detroit (when i visit my family), but domestically, i'll fly whatever will get me where i'm going (usually NWA, Delta, AA, or Continental).
Internationally, I try to fly only El Al (i live in Israel).
And i try to fly only the 747, if i have a choice. (since on the TA-NYC route they fly both the 747 and the 777).
When i fly NWA to amsterdam from detroit (with my mom), I have no choice but to fly a KLM 737 into tel aviv.
I don't know what version it is.
It's a nutty plane to be flying internationally though. But as i said, i rarely do it. Only when i'm flying with my mom.
OK - First post here. I'm an Orlando based 737 pilot for a very large low-fare carrier. I have the privledge of flying hundreds of folks destined to Wally World every week. As a resident of Celebration, I too enjoy the mouse with my family.
Airplanes of similar size will not produce a different ride (smooth or bumpy). If you had a smooth ride on a 737 or A320, you got a day with little wind or no significant weather. Much bigger "Heavy" aircraft do offer smoother rides just because there is so much more mass, and harder for the wind to push around. Not many of those flying into Wally World though, unless you are crossing the pond.
I'm happy to hear so many are please with the ride and comfort of the 737's. The Airbus A320 (mainly JetBlue into MCO) is a wider aircraft (with wider seats). Many think that makes it a more comfortable ride.
See you on board......
congratulations on your first post!
would you consider the A330 and the 767 or 777 similar sized planes?
because of the 3, i prefer the 767.....i hate the 777 and despise the A330....
are they similarly sized?
of course the 747 is the best, but of the 3 above, there is something about the 767's ride that is preferable to me. the 777 much much less and the A330 is beyond bad in my opinion.
by the way, besides the nice ride on the 747 (and i always sit upstairs on elal, where it's nice and quiet and secluded), i LOVE the fact that it has 4 engines...
when i'm flying across the atlantic, i like the idea that there's backup...
it bothers me that on the A330 (or on the 777, 767, 757 for that matter) there are only 2 engines........i know you can fly on one......but if you're only starting from 2, the odds are worse than if you start from 4..
as you can see, i'm a worst case scenario sort of a person...
and while i love planes, my fears are starting to get the best of me..
i've seriously looked into how i can get to the states without getting on a plane..
not an easy thing to do from where i am....
