WHAT Vaccine Was This...?

I remember, when I was a kid, frequently getting the same vaccination with my boosters.

It wasn't really a SHOT, but rather something they would PRESS on your skin, and then they would draw a smiley face around it that your mom had to keep an eye on.

It's been driving me nuts.

I've been in Google and Wikipedia, but can't find it!

Could it have been a test for tuberculosis (tb)? I have never had a smiley face, but it otherwise sounds like that.
You are probably not finding it by googling because it is not a vaccine at all--but I can imagine it seemed like one to a child.

TB. If it was positive (red, raised)it meant you may have been exposed to TB and you had to go back for a second test (PPD) that was given under the skin.

Do they still do that during childhood now? I can't remember if DGD had it done or not..

Yeah everytime we move and start at a new school my kids have to get tb again.

That was a TB test. Now they inject something into your forearm with a needle instead.

TB "tine" test.

The last one I had (about 4 years ago) was the one where they insert a needle just barely under the skin and inject some stuff that forms a bubble. The bubble goes down after a couple of minutes. Then you have to go back in a day or two so the Dr. can verify the results.

They don't require this in our state. When we lived in South Dakota our oldest had one at his 2 year check up, our twins have never had one. Here the only time you really get one is if you work in a hospital.
