What use year?

I'm not sure I understand what "use year" means. I envision we will primarily use our future DVC ownership to vacation in either December or January, probably alternating years so I can get annual passes (i.e. January & December 2008; January & December 2010; etc.).

I've figured out the ideal number of points and resort we would like. So if we are watching resales, what might be a good use year for us to get?

Use year only matters if you have to cancel a reservation. It has nothing to do with when you can make one, which is always 11 months in advance at your home resort.

But if you have to cancel, having a use year at the beginning or close to the beginning of when you travel, allows you to cancel the trip and still have the whole year to use of bank you points. A good use year for you based on this line f thinking would be December or October (there is no November use years). That way if you had a January trip planned and a December use year and had to cancel, you would still have through the following November to use your points or until the end of May to bank 100% of them.

But will your travel pattern of today be the same in 10 or 20 years? Probably not. That's why I'm not so sure use year really matters at all.

Think of "Use Year" as when your points "renew" every year... IE... If I have a November UY and one 250 point contract, every November 1st I have 250 points to use..

As Happy Birthday Cat... Your UY only matters if you need to cancel a trip for whatever reason...

Again going with the November UY example..

If I plan a stay at OKW from November 10-17, and have to cancel for whatever reason, I still am within the window to be able to bank 100% of those points or to plan a different trip...

If I plan that same weeklong stay at OKW from August 10-August 17 and have to cancel, my only options are to bank 25% of my points or try and book another trip to spend those points before October 31st...
