What type of bag to carry in the parks???

I just broke down and bought a fanny pack. I went to www.domsoutdoor.com They have the biggest selection that I have seen anywhere. And they have some cool colors too! Not just your standard black, and dark blue. :thumbsup2

I always in the past have used the dorky fanny pack with no problems. This year I bought for our May trip a travelon bag from QVC. If you do a search on QVC for travelon bags they have several styles to choose from. They are messenger style bags with a strap that goes across your chest with the bag resting on your hip. They come in several different colors. The one I got the strap is detachable and the "purse" part can snap onto your belt. It is pretty roomy with a zipper on the bottom to make the bag expand if you need more room. The cost was I think about $19 or $20. :thumbsup2

I also bought a travelon bag from QVC. Mine doesn't come apart though. It is a pretty green suede color. I am sure I will look dorky, but I don't want a fanny pack or a backpack. So I will be the nerdy girl with her green travelon and her fake crocs!!!! :thumbsup2

Alright, so now I don't know if I want a messenger style bag because the strap across the chest thing...I really don't want to draw anymore attention the that area by straping down the center of my shirt. ;)

So what type of fanny pack do use? I'll just make DH wear it. :lmao: I actually got him to switch off with me last time with the backpack...and it had flowers all over it. He's such a good DH. I hate the fanny packs because I hate the added weight and bulk on my mid section...wear I least need it. Ya know what I mean... I'm sure a back pack is out...but a fanny pack isn't going to fit 2 ponchos? We always end up having to pay an arm and a leg for a disney one because we don't want to carry them around...well not this time! Of course it won't rain once if we have them. ;) I want to carry with me: my camera(very small), lip gloss, pen, my vacation prep pad, wet ones wipes and ponchos. Some days the video camera too. What all do you fit in a fanny pack?

We always use a smaller mesh backpack so it is not as hot and it is very easy to find what you are looking for in it. It also goes thru the bag check when going into the parks alot quicker.

I took a Rick Steves (the travel guru) day bag that I bought on his website. It is similar to a backpak but smaller and much lighter. Just large enough to hold my wallet, camera, rain ponchos, umbrella and small purchases. It also has 2 holders on the exterior for water bottles. It is comfortable to sling over the shoulder for carrying but small enough to easily stow on those rides that require you to secure your personal belongings!

Thanks I really like the look of this - and it doesnt go across the chest - but over the shoulder!!

I love using a fanny pack. I get all my essentials in there and it's not too heavy and my hands are free. With backpacks I worry that someone could put their hands in it when I'm waiting in a line (yeah, I know I'm paranoid) and it's not that comfortable. Oh well, the fanny pack works for me!
I like this the best also. Love the hands free, no pain approach to storing my belongings :)

Hey, good thought of making your DH wear the fanny pack. I may have to try that ;) My fanny pack is usually crammed full. Sort of makes me feel like I am expecting again  I have even been able to fit an autograph book and camera in there at the same time. Others items may include, antibacterial hand wipes, ibuprofen, pen, gum and mints. That is all I can think of at the moment.

I take a couple of different things.

1) I use a small backpack on days when I want to carry a bit more than the bare necessities (like a sweatshirt), but found it was important to try it on "fully loaded" to make sure it was comfortable. The first one I tried was very comfortable until I filled it; then, it was awful! Luckily I kept the tags on it and returned it. Found one that was much more comfortable at Target - hardly feels like I have anything on!

2) When I want to "go smaller", I alternate between a small fabric fanny pack or a small crochet purse. I, too, don't like the look of fanny packs, but love the "hands free" feeling of using one. The crochet purse also works well, and looks a little nicer.

I love this bag the coach signature swing pack. you can find it here www.coach.com It is small but holds lots of stuff. I can hold my digital camera, lipstick, sunglasses, lots of other stuff and the outside pouch is perfect for easy to get to stuff like room key and park tix. It even held my rain poncho. I never have to take it off for a ride and I don't even know I have it on...it is also pick pocket proof. It does not look dorky, and it's one "theme park bag" you can use at home. The strap is to be worn across the body, but the strap can be adjusted and can be worn any way you like. I love it for shopping...hands free. Everytime I use this bag I get so many compliments on it.

I use a backpack but I have never had the problem with my armpits hurting from it. Since we carry 4-6 bottle of water along with 2 jackets and a few snacks as well as a small book (my husband likes to sit and read while I go solo on the thrill rides) and our camera, sunscreen, and such we need a large bag and find it worth it. I like to s\chill the water the night before we usually stay at a hotel with a fridge(SOG or a moderate) and that keep my back nice and cool and if it is too cold I but a jacket against my back instead.

My husband, the pack mule, carries a small messenger bag that the strap goes across his body and rests on the back of his hip. We saw someone with it at DL and I found it on the internet and ordered it.

Last May we carried our backpack filled with everything you can think of b/c we still have 2 young ones(3,7)
ANyway, lugged it around the whole time then, last day a rain storm came through...DH did not want the camera and camcorder damp so he insisted we put in a locker...
OH MY GOOD GRIEF! What a great idea...that day was the lightest best day I have ever had at Disney...so I say- bring it and lock it up!

I am hooked on the Kipling bags. They are very light weight, durable and versatile. My favorite is a bag that that can convert between an over the shoulder across the body to a back pack. Kipling also makes a great fanny pack and back pack (which I also have and use). I found them originally in the airport, but I have seen them occationally at T.J. Maxx for almost half the price. They are krinkly in appearance so shoving them into my cramped suitcase doesn't affect the look of the bag. You have probably seen them, they come with an ape on a key chain, which I remove immediately and replace with a Mickey keychain!

I use Kipling also. The fanny pack I just bought is going to be perfect for our next trip. They are a really good size. Not bulky at all. And a bonus is it's LIME GREEN! :thumbsup2
Last year I used one of my small Kipling backpacks. It worked out good, but I did get a bit sweaty on my back. Not a good feeling.
I have used Kipling for many years. They are my everyday bags.

I actually carry a purse. Last year I carried a Mickey purse that I bought at Wal-Mart. It was very cute and deep. However, it has a magnetic closure, which kept demagnetizing our tickets/keys, so I just bought a Tinkerbell purse off ebay for our next trip. It zips up (also important because DH and I are riding RnRC for the first time), and Tink has sequins on her wings. Very cute. When we take the video camera, DH also carries a backpack.

I use a backpack. My suggestion for the best backpack, the kid that you chinch together at the top, is one put out by Under Armour. It is by far the best of this kind. I got mine at Dick's Sporting Goods for $20. What makes this bag so great is it's features. Usually the chinch style bags the straps are basically string, well they will dig into your bare arms through out the day, not good. The Under Armour bag, the straps are made of foam, also the bag has a mesh back (the part that would be against your back, so it will breathe - a little) also supposedly the bag's material is water proof. It comes in various colors too. It is by far the best bag to use and not have it krimp your style. In case you are wondering, no I do not work for Under Armour, I just love this bag that much  !

I carried my LL Bean Healthy Back Bag during last month's trip . I was a little nervous about carrying it, because I thought it wouldn't stay put and feel heavy after a few hours. Well, much to my delight, it worked out just great. The zipper faces forward which is a good feature, and its easier to get on and off unlike a regular backpack. There are many compartments for all that important stuff. It also comes in a larger size which would probably work out for those of you with little children. They come in dark colors so they can be hubby friendly. Check them out on the LL bean site. Sometimes they're available in the sale section.

I just purchased a small backpack from dick's sporting goods(I think it was a north face) that had curved straps (this is designed for women's shape and shoulders) I think it was regularly 40, I got it on sale for about 30.
