What TS restaurant surprised you but in a good way?

After alway's getting dogged in reviews, I would have to say....

Tony's Town Square :thumbsup2: good food, great location, great service

We would vote for Nine Dragons as well. We were of the same thought as some other people on here in thinking that we can get Chinese food much cheaper around here.

We tried it & thought that it was great! We've got an ADR for it again this fall!

Nine Dragons was a good surprise, especially the ginger caramel ice cream, it was incredibly good and refreshing!

The Turf Club @ SSR:thumbsup2

I agree! This is one of our favorites now and we love to pop over without an ADR...we've never waited, even when Guest Relations in the park tells us nothing is available.

Yak &Yeti...we did a walk in at lunch in January and was not expecting the food to be sooooo good. The lo mein was so fresh and good. The pineapple wontons were to die for. Can't wait to go back. Also we had heard mixed reviews on Ohana's but tried it for a late dinner and fell in love with the food there...going back in September to both places...

I've always looked at Kona Cafe as the 'red headed step child' of Ohana, but we tried it last year and now we love it! It was one of the best dinners we've ever had on property. Needless to say....it's on our list of ADR's for June and August! :thumbsup2

GOOD CALL! My wife and I have been to Kona multiple times and it's VERY good. The amazing thing is Ohana gets all the love but I liked Kona better...AND...their steak is only a notch below Le Cellier. If you want a great meal without having to sell your soul for an ADR...Kona is your place.

Maya Grill at CSR. We went there one night when we were just too tired to leave our hotel and it was the best meal of that trip!

Another vote for Tony's Town Square here. Last year, our last full day at the parks was the first day of free dining and we had trouble getting dinner ADRs in the MK/MK resorts. It finally came down to either Tony's or Liberty Tree Tavern. We went with Tony's, and I'm so glad we did- the food and service were excellent, which we weren't expecting after reading the boards. That said, you can have a particularly good or particularly bad experience anywhere, so it's difficult to tell how a restaurant is going to be based on other people's reviews. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from the food at Akershus either, but it's become my favorite meal at WDW (it's going to be a sad day for me when they finally get rid of the vegetable-stuffed pasta :rotfl:).

I was really surprised by how much I liked Kouzzina when we were there two weeks ago...I wasn't very excited about eating there (mostly chose it because we were staying at the Boardwalk), but I and my family thought the food was great! I loved the spreads appetizer (the hummus was delicious) and the Pastitsio. It was a really nice dining experience.

I was also very very pleasantly surprised by Artist Point...I read some mixed reviews of it before we left and was considering switching to a different signature restaurant (but decided not to because I wanted to see Wilderness Lodge). I'm so glad I didn't because this was probably one of the best meals I've ever had! We were lucky enough to go when they were serving their special Copper River Salmon (I think that's the name of it) and it was AMAZING. Best salmon of my life. :thumbsup2

We were totally surprised by Tutto Italia!!!!!

My wife and I are kind of Italian food snobs, we lived in brooklyn, work in NYC and have been to Italy. So we have had our share of great Italian meals!!!!

Was the food perfect, no, but it was very good!

Was it over priced, yes, but on the Dining plan it was ok.

Our server was what made it this dinner fantastic!!!!

First we started talking Italian wines, he made a few suggestions based on our preferences. Then I said to him "you pick", My wife still talks about how good the wine was.

Then after looking at the menu I said to him "you pick"!! He brought me exactly what I was planing on ordering !!!!

My wife ordered the tiramisu and gave the biscuit that came with it to one of our DD, the other DD said " that looks good" under her breath. Next thing we know a plate of them appear on the table(they were very good).

This was a last minute ADR that totally exceeded my expiations!!!

The Plaza in MK. We went in for lunch, as a spur of the moment thing, were seated almost immediately, had a great lunch, with excellent service. AND to top it all off DS8 was made deputy mayor of Main Street, he got a certificate and all, along with some photo ops with the Mayor of Main Street. It was a lot of fun. The Plaza was a place I had always overlooked, but it was worth stopping by!

Another vote for Tony's. We'd heard it was awful and had never tried it but stopped by last trip in late April with no ADR for lunch and it was tasty. We'd do it again!

I'd have to say the Plaza. I was just expecting a so-so sandwich type place but it was REALLY good! If you're looking for a TS spot in MK I highly recommend it.

Also, Sanaa in AKL. The menu is pretty small but the atmosphere is unbelievable. I highly recommend the braised beef short ribs.

And if you're looking for CS in DTD try Earl of Sandwich. I only went there because its one of few breakfast places in DTD but it is really nicely decorated and the food is good. Also, if you're looking for breakfast it is very inexpensive.

I hadn't been all that jazzed to eat at Liberty Tree Tavern, but was our second favorite meal of our trip last year. The gravy was to die for!

Also the Sci-fi got bad reviews but the atmosphere & food were terrific!

Garden Grill with Chip and Dale. LOVED it!!! I think because it's a lot smaller than the other places, the character interaction is just so much better. Both chipmunks and even the Mouse himself spent more time w/ my kids there than anywhere else in the park. They played games with them, let them give several big hugs, it was one of those times that sticks in a mom's head forever. :lovestruc The food wasn't just spectacular, but it was good-- and everyone liked it. Nothing odd or weird, just good, feel good food. I'd definitely go back! :thumbsup2

For me the most pleasant surprise was the Captains Grill. We made an ADR last minute to fill in the evening we arrived and didn't feel like leaving the resort(we stayed at the YC). We have gone there twice since. I enjoy the steak here better than the over-hyped Le'Cellier which I did expect to come close to meeting the incredible hype and failed to even come close to delivering on.:)

On our last trip a few weeks ago we decided to try Crystal Palace for breakfast, mainly to enter the park before opening. We really don't do buffets. But, it was so good and fresh and yummy. We loved all the fruit and berries and the puffed french toast was killer.
