Inspired by the "What Toy was a Hit with the Kids" thread, are there any toys that were a bust this year?

I wouldn't call them a bust, but DS has shown very little interest in his TAG reader. I think he may just be a bit too young to play with it independently yet. He also hasn't shown much interest in his Imaginext pirate ship and castle. Again, I think he is just a bit young for them. I am sure that if DH or I sit with him and play he would be much more interested. Maybe once the novelty of his other toys wears off he will come back to these?

ETA: My dad bought DS a pump gun from Cabela's that shoots foam balls. It is a piece of junk and next to impossible for the adults to use, let alone a toddler (package says ages 3+). It is packed up and ready to go back to the store.

Anyone have any true busts this year?

Hubby bought KOTA the dinosaur and my son (who is way too young) is scared of it.

I don't know that this counts as a bust because they are really cool and work but I broke my son's Night Vision goggles strap while trying to take them out of the box. My bf was able to rig them up so they work but I felt really bad about it.

The bust at our house was the Camp Rock wall decals. I cannot get them to stick to the wall at all. They'll stay for awhile & then fall in the middle of the night. They are able to stick to books, poster, & other things that they fall onto, but they won't stick to the wall!

If you have any texture at all on your wall these won't stick. The surface must be smoooth....

The Bust at our house... Youngest DS asked for several things, including Dominoes, Bendaroos and Find It, a Supposedly educational game where they have to find all these cool things hidden in a tube of beads, sort of like I Spy in 3-D, well they found everything in 2 minutes "That's boring". We keep a box in their room for old toys that they are ready to donate to charity. Last night all were in the box! The Dominoes still had the wrapper on!

That's what I was afraid of! I guess we'll be decorating the closet doors with them.

One of the teachers got the I-Spy tube thing from one of her students. It kept the teachers entertained for a long time! Maybe it's our longer attention span & old eyes that can't see anything though. ;)

No busts here -- everything was bought off of my DD's wish list. OP - my DD is 3 and loves her Tag reader -- perhaps you can just sit next to your son and show him how to use it? They have over 20 books available right now. :)

and I'm not sure they've even touched anything else. Not sure why I bothered. (I was thinking about sneaking some of them off to a closet and see if they are missed at all and maybe returning a few.. would that make me a Scrooge?) :rotfl2:

The only real "bust" so far was DS wanted "real" legos. He is almost 5. So we packed up all of his "big" block sets, and I bought him the 50th anniversary lego blocks. It is nothing but blocks. No wheels, platforms, anything. Just blocks.
So not really legos fault, I guess I just need to buy more.
I am a little dissappointed in the barbie Diamond castle carriage...it is pretty poor quality, and is already broken in 3 places, from normal play, DD6 is not rough with it at all. And of course the box was in the garbage by lunchtime, so no hope of returning it. DD is still playing with it, so it isn't a "bust"

Unfortunately, the Wii has not been as popular in our house as we had hoped. Two possible reasons: two cousins were here (older than our kids) who had gotten a Wii and said they did NOT like their Wii, so my kids probably didn't want to seem lame by liking their Wii (a little annoyed by that whole scenario). Second, we went to Universal Studios on the 27th for two days, so they weren't home to play. I hope they'll play soon! I love it!

WOW that's a first.....I don't know anyone who has one who's kids and adults don't love it. We got one last year and our family plays it all of the time.

I'm in shock!!! :scared1: :scared1: Seriously - they didn't like their Wii??? What's wrong with these kids??? Sorry, didn't want that to come across as mean but I have NEVER met someone who didn't like theirs. We love ours and played the one we got my family (parents and siblings) a lot over Christmas at their house. Wow...

BTW, no duds here but I must say that DH is probably so overwhelmed with my parents spoiling that he doesn't know what to do with all of his loot.

DS only asked for the Crayola glow station.. and has not played with it but once . We looked for it for about a month and a relative finally found it. He isnt interested ugghhhh

So far, no major busts. But there are toys that the kids haven't gotten to yet. A Lucky the Puppy (that I haven't taken out of the box yet) and Space Shuttle thingie (which I also haven't taken out yet). We try to prolong the newness as long as possible by taking our time opening things. :)

We got a Wii and boy, does that take a lot of PATIENCE to teach 2 little boys how to play. You should see them play Mario Karts. They are all over the place! I know they are young and I knew I'd have to teach them since all they've had before this is the Leapster. But I have to limit our time to about an hour at a time so I don't go crazy.

disappointed in the eye spy cam - apparently we got the one that only hooks to the tv which is not good since our tv is this old dinosaur so there is no place to connect it. I took everything out of the box before I realized it so I am not sure I can return it. It looks great but we just do not know how to use it. it stinks having to connect it to the tv. oh well.

I too am shocked!

My DD14 & DS10 love our Wii. We've got over 2 dozen games for it. Maybe those kids just didn't have the right games for them. They should check-out their local Gamestop....they'll find some games they love.

Nerf Vulcan gun. These were a piece of junk and both went back the next day. My oldest son's would not even turn on (new batteries) my youngest's would turn on but it jammed so bad he could not even play with it. I was really disappointed in these - had even ran all over town finding the extra packs of darts that went with it. The boys took it in stride. Told the youngest Santa left the gift receipt and he was happy with his $40 cash.

Our Crayola Glow Station is already back to the store...it broke upon first use! The "screen" cracked when my daughter touched it with the crystal star maker.

The Wii is still getting all of the attention in our house. My son has played with his Hot Wheel track 1x but won't agree to take it back ($30), the Vtech Flash has not been played with once yet (dd5), the dart board is still in the box and the I Spy Eagle Eye game was quickly considred boring. Maybe once the newness of the Wii wears off, they'll take a look at some of the other gifts.

Now dd5 loves her Ponyville sets, Barbies and Littlest Pet Shop figures.

Wow, now I am so glad I did not spring for that and just got dd the two dolls that sing together. She is happy with them thankfully. BTW, have you ever gotten them to sing 'connected' and stay in sync? It seems that no matter how we time it, one of them always ends up faster in the end. I think that it is an error in the timing of the two songs.

But back on topic, I have to say this is the first year that nothing has been a bust! hurrah! But I cut back on her number of toys, too, so I think that helped.
