What to wear on the plane out there(kids)?

So I'm super excited that we're leaving in less than two weeks :cool1: but starting to panic about just about everything!

This will be the first time I've flown with kids (and i've got three so it'll be an induction by fire!!) and i'm being very indecisive about what to dress them in.

The baby will be 3 months, so was just thinking of a sleepsuit for her, it's comfy, easy to change if need be. Will i need to take a blanket for her? I'm taking our sling, so she'll either be asleep on me or in the cot the airline (BA) provide

The boys are 3 and 5.5. Was planning on them wearing 3/4 length trousers, tshirt (I've made Disney or bust ones) and probably a zip up jumper over the top.

Does that sound reasonable? I know it's going to be a bit of a mission with all three kids on the flight, so the last thing i want is anyone moaning they're hot/cold or whatever!

thanks

That is more or less what I do for DD. As long as she is comfortable. I tend to take a hooded sweat top or similar for the trip and get her to wear that onto the plane, athough she usually removes it as soon as we board. Sometimes the aircon can be a bit cool.

It is also a good idea to avoid white :lmao:as you will know - or any light colours for that matter - and as you also no doubt are aware, that goes for the parents too ;)

A light blanket for the baby is something I would take. Even in warm weather I always had one with me as it is nice to have something familiar to lay in the stroller/crib/skycot. It's something familiar too and they hardly take up any room.

take a change of clothes for everyone...
i know with 3 kids, that's difficult to do, but we learned the hard way...(one trip, DD, when she was about 2 years old, threw up all over herself and DH on the plane...)

and if you have the hand luggage space, take a change of clothing for the adults as well..
assume that your luggage will get lost for a day....(we learned that one the hard way too)..

as for the 3/4 length and the jumper....that sounds good...
or you could have them in full length trousers with a tshirt and jumper (or hooded sweat top)...

it's more likely to be cold on the plane than hot...

and if you're flying indirect, we found the transfer airports to be just this side of the deep freeze...i remember one flight through newark when i had to buy the kids little sport training outfits in an airport store to keep them warm......we got stuck there for a few hours due to weather....

actually, the key is to dress in layers....which is what you're planning on doing....

Wear something that you dont plan on wearing again all holiday...i ALWAYS spill something down me!!! My flight clothes always end up in the wash bag!!!:rotfl:

Just another tip - slightly off topic - as you're travelling with young children

I always take a photo on my camera/phone of the girls before we leave the house so that if the horror of loosing them at the airport ever happened I could show security/staff a photo. I know if they asked me what they were wearing - I'd be in a mad panic and my mind would go blank!

Yeah me too I'm a total nightmare and always end up with those stains that you have no idea where they came from :confused3

I would agree with a change for each person if you can manage we always do and its just DH and I.

good tip!! we have 4 and we dress them in the same tops so that they are easily identifiable 1/ as siblings and 2/so i can remember what they have on in an emergency! i actually lol(ed) at this post as i thought i was the only neurotic mother who thought about these things!! ha ha ha!

a change of clothes would be my best tip also! they ALWAYS spill something and usually right in my lap! ;)

:santa::santa:

Yes DD who has been aged 2, 3 and 4 usually wears 3/4 pants or leggings, t shirt and zip up hoody.

On the first trip I only thought to bring spare clothes for her not me - it was me that needed them after she had spilt things all over me. With 3 inc a baby i'd pack a spare top for yourself.

My tip for the airport is to have a pep talk with the children before you get there - this is a difficult day, lots of waiting, you will not be seeing mickey as soon as you get off the plane etc.

My tip for the plane is a 99p pack of plastercine - kept DD amused for ages.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions!!! I'm definately packing a change of clothes for us all in our handluggage. Either for spills (or baby sick over my shoulder :lmao:) or in case the worst and our lluggage not arrive, then we have something.

Went out yesterday and found a tracksuit type thing in sport direct on sale for both the boys (which also solves my dilema about a light jacket!) and they'll be in their matching Disney or bust tshirts.

Great idea about taking pictures of what they're wearing. i think i'll try to remember to do that every morning of our holiday.

If the boys have them you could pack football kits, these are very light for your hand luggage. I always used to pack them for mine after my DD threw up in the airport all over herself and we didn't have a spare so we bought a footy kit from the airport. My son was also prone to spilling his little can of pop down himself.

I always pack a spare change of clothes in the hand luggage (usually shorts and t-shirt so that when you get off the plane and into the heat it's not too unbearable.

The other thing I always do is pack pj's and 'first night' stuff in one place (I use the packmate vacuum bags which are just the most fantastic thing ever!!) so that tired children can be put to bed without going through 2 weeks worth of clothes to find pj's.

Never thought about plastercine/playdough - I can feel a game of Rapidough coming on!
