What do you wear during Christmas time? How is the weather?

Keep an eye on the weather sites. It really varies from year to year. Sometimes it's cold (and it's a damp cold--the kind that sinks into your bones) and other times it's warm. Nights are always chilly, so be prepared for layers.

I've been twice in early December and both times we were very lucky. The days were beautiful, we wore short sleeves and pants or cropped pants. But make sure you bring your jackets because it does get pretty cold in the evening.

We were there the first week of December last year and it was COLD!!! You get that Sana Anna wind blowing in and it can be down right miserable. Make sure to bring a warm jacket. We didn't and had to run over to Target and get some. And boy was that a miserable walk in the cold.

BTW I am from Utah land of the snow so I know cold.

Depends what you're used to. I'm from Vegas, so by the time in gets 65 degrees I'm freezing my tush off. If you see a family that looks like Michellin men in december, thats us :lmao:

Emily (whose heater is on from october to april)

I am from Utah, so I know cold winters and currently I live in Eastern Washington. HOTTER than HECK in the summer and colder than cold in the winter. It is usually 10-35 in the winter months depending on the year. So I am use to cold. Thanks, I will be bringing jeans, capris, cropped pants, a jacket, but no sweatshirts. it will give a reason to shop and then Santa Mickey can bring the boys a sweatshirt and some warm items.

The Santa Ana winds are actually really warm winds that happen in the Fall and Spring. When we were there in November 03, it was 90 plus degrees and the Santa Ana winds made it feel like an oven. We are from Arizona and while it does get to 115 and above here, it still felt horrible.

I do not think the cold winds in the winter have a name. :confused3

They're still Santa Anas whether they're cold or hot. The first bit of them and the last are warm because there's still heat on the desert. Once the heat's been blown off (and the mountain passes that they blow through and are accelerated by are covered in snow) they get bitterly cold.

I knew this thread was going to be like this I almost didn't look! LOL

I'm from AZ & I know hot very well, when we go to Newport Beach in June - I'm cold. My g-ma used to call it thin desert blood. ;)

I didn't think there'd be a solid answer bc CA winters are a lot like ours it seems, SA winds or not. We can wear capris but we may need jeans & a huge coat too - you never know.

My advice is to dress in layers, thin enough that they're easy to store (locker/backpack/stroller). I planned on jeans & a tee (in Jan) w/ several layers.

Ooh & if you can find some cheapo rain ponchos - that's always good too.

We had a real mix when we were there for christmas, some hot days , some cold.. but evenings are genearlly cool

That's so me! Except I grew up in Canada where -30C (-20F) is common! In the summer if it's below 30C (85F) I sometimes need a light layer over my tee! My family just rolls their eyes at me. My kids say I have four main moods: Cranky (of course) Sleepy, Happy or Cold. Maybe I have some of the desert in me, too.

Or we should just move somewhere warmer;)

The weather people on tv call them Santa Anas based on wind direction and that they are coming off the desert. But believe me, they can still be really cold, especially if you are near the passes and canyons they blow through during the winter.

Thanks everybody, I didnt mean to start such a Controversy over the weather. Reguardless the wind will come from somewhere. I am just wondering should you dress in layers, will just a long sleeve shirt work that kind of stuff. Also how cold it will be, I will be coming from very COLD to warmer weather.
Thanks everybody for your input.

Jordansmomma - As far as layers go.....for me, I'll be in a tee, long sleeve, then sweatshirt (hoodie). No wind can permeate & they're thin enough they won't be a burden to carry or stash somewhere.

Then, it's good to bring a poncho just in case. You can get them in the $1 bins at Target occasionally.

Also, I'm not used to cold like you are - you might be able to get away w/ less, but a hoodie(wind off your neck) is always good.
