What to wear for Dapper Day?

So many great links and ideas in this thread. Thank you! :goodvibes Is anyone going with a more casual look rather than the more formal, pin-up type look? Or would we be really out of place doing that? Also, does anyone have good ideas for vintage fashion for the "non-vintage" body? I am a plus size girl and don't really have a defined waist. It seems that everything I find will not look flattering on me in the least. :( Last question! Would shoes like these look ok with a cute skirt? I am a barefooter at heart and the idea of wearing cute heels or even most ballet flats sounds painful!

The shoes are adorable!!

Dapper Day is about having fun and there are no set rules on what to wear.

Capri pants/ petal pushers were really popular in the 1950's if you want to go with a more casual look. Throw on a pair of cat eye sun glasses and wear a scarf around you neck or in your hair and you will have a comfy retro look.

Torrid carries a cute line by the name of Retro Chic too. I have purchased a few dresses from their collection and they are very flattering.

:-)

Totally agree with Pinup Mommy! Those shoes are super cute, and you can wear whatever you like. The idea is not necessarily to copy a vintage style exactly, but take the idea of "dressing things up" for an outing, as was done in the past, and apply it any way you want. Lots of people opt for a retro look but you don't have to. The idea would be to adopt the old sense of dressing with style rather than relying on sweat pants and flip flops.

I don't plan to wear heels. I tried it last time and even though mine were wedges and relatively low, I still had very unhappy feet after walking around in them for a while. This time, I'm sticking with flats. I have a pair of black and white Oxford-type shoes but I'm trying to decide whether or not they will work. My trial run with them has shown me that the heels are stiff and not very comfortable after a time. I do NOT want blistered heels!

Thanks ladies! I'm having fun thinking of all the possibilities!
I'm sure I will be able to come up with something great that will combine the comfort I want and still be "dressing up".

You know, it's really amazing what just accessories will do for an outfit. You can take a simple dress and add gloves, a vintage style hat and some pearls and you've got the look! :thumbsup2

My girlfriends and I are going to the fall Dapper Day this year. I found some cute Rockabilly type dresses on AliExpress.com. Still trying to figure out shoes and other accessories. It looks like so much fun!
