What to take on the plane for a 6 year old

Bit disappointed - just ordered a Kids Samsonite Rucksack for my DD who will be 6 when we travel. It came today very promptly but is really minute. yes, Iknow -should have looked at the measurements but hey I'm a girl! Anyway I figured it may not be such a bad thing. It iwll hopefully avoid me filling it with stuff she won't use. She (should!) will be able to carry it herself.

We are flying with Virgin so will get the Kids Pack on board anyway.

Does anybody have any suggestions of things to take on the plane to amuse her. Bearing in mind space is now limited !!

Sticker books, lots and lots of stickers. Colouring books and pencils. Lots as they fall on the floor and get lost. Haribo sweets.

The Kids TV channel should help her pass the time.

I've found some websites which have colouring pages to print off as well as word searches etc. So have printed some off for dd who is 7 and got some simple ones for ds age 4. They also have crayons and a surprise book as well. I also got them some top trump cards to play together and a travel game.

I always take far too much stuff to amuse the kids and they don't end up using half of it.

I have two boys aged 4 and 6 and i am going to take some of the activity books you get in Tescos. I will also get a sticker book each and some plasticine(sp?) as this has gone down very well on the last 2 trips.

Then i will take a travel game and their Nintendo DS's.
My youngest will no doubt demand that i take a selection of his toy motorbikes for him to play with too as he is obsessed with them.

I've got the usual coloring books, pencils but also have a pkt of top trumps (disney pack!) and a few small games. I wont give them out all at once but spread them out and save a few for the return trip.

I have noticed that Woolies have travel games that might be worth looking at. Also get some snap cards as that is fun - we always take cards on a flight

When my neph was younger to keep him occupied we used to wrap little gifts up for him so that we co9uld give him one every couple of hours. He would look forward to this and it kept him totally occupied. Top Trumps cards always went down well as did a few bits of lego.

Top Trumps goes down well with my son. I have also got him some colouring books, pens and sticker books. If you are flying with virgin then he will have plenty to occupy him on the seat back tv. Also my son will take his DS8 and PSP so that will keep him occupied for the flight. Also they get the kids pack on virgin too. Anything has to be better than last year - we flew the day oafter the terror scare. virigin did not even give the kids the packs so my son had just the TV to occupy him all the way to St Lucia - but he coped so now I realise I dont need so much for him.

Don't forget some comics....particularly the summer bumper type specials but the tv's will probably keep her entertained.

reminds me of a few years ago,MIL was stoped at customs when they whent througth her bag they pulled out a bag of 200 ballons.Asked what they were for her reply to keep kids amused in the evenings.

If it's a 'Sammies' which is what my DD5 took this year
(we had the baby giraffe one!) then we managed fine with that.
She had in it.
4 ladybird books (hard backs)
Wet wipes.
A mini puzzle from the Disney store.
small note book and colouring crayons
2 packets of sweets.

We also bought at the aidport, travel 'guess who' we both loved playing it with her and also another colouring pad and a comic (they all went in DHs large cabin bag!)

Colouring books and lots of pens/pencils.
Disney mag (as they have games etc inside)
Plenty of sweeties (makes good when watching a movie)
Gameboy.
Sticker books.
A new play thing every hour wrapped up this makes them feel special and the excitement passes the time.
Books to read,let them pick there own.

Now our neice took her own portable DVD player I know they are seat back on Virgin but she wanted to watch her own films so to speak.

I think playing games like the little ones like connect 4,cards,top trumps,etc they go down well.
Also if they are into maths etc you can print off adding and subtractions online to give them something stimulating to do.

Hi Sweet Pea..
Why not take your daughter on a 'special' shopping trip, and see what she would like to take? If she thinks she is getting a special 'going away' gift, she will value playing with it even more!!
I used to pack, the small 'travel games' too, like Connect 4, Guess Who, Mastermind, etc..
I remember (my kids are now 15 and 20), taking a mobile Guess Who game on loads of trips!
