for a 2y8m old? I have all the basics covered, small art and toys, will have a laptop and headphones for a video (even though she is not much of a TV kid) but have never flown with her or anyone this young. So anything you wish you had taken and didn't, a super successful toy or activity, something unusual that made the trip great?

Snacks, a non-spill sippy cup, blanket. ..

individually wrapped wet ones wipes
a change of clothes
lollipops to help with pressure change in her ears

If she doesn't normally use headphones, make sure you practice before the flight. I had to try several before finding ones that fit ds at that age.

I find it much easier to use a backpack for a carryon bag when travelling with kids. Keeps your hands free to help put shoes on after security, push a stroller, hold their hands, etc.

Scotch tape - my then 2yo played with a roll for an entire 3 hour trip, also stickers and post it notes and a small notebook to stick them on! Color wonder is also a hit.

Gummy candy if you allow it for the ears (gerber makes a toddler brand) and a sippie cup for drinks - the tougher to sip out of the better to help the ears.

Patience and maybe visit a website for finger games and such.

ITA with the pp about a backpack vs a diaper bag the easier to carry the better.

Stickers and or sticker books.

Honestly my daughter did great on flights before. Our Christmas trip she was 29 months and it was the toughest time we've had with her flying. It was her 5th plane trip (round trip of course)
