What to serve on Christmas Morning?

There was a thread like this last year so I know you will get some great suggestions.

We do several things but 2 favs are baked oatmeal and a sausage/egg cassarole. They get prepared the night before and left in the frig overnight to just be popped in the oven.

Would you mind sharing your recipe for baked oatmeal?

I have already been told no breakfast casserole of any kind which really limits me because thats what I always fix!

For those that have told you "no breakfast casserole"...You should serve a big heap of You Get What You Get and You Don't Get Upset. The recipe is whatever is most pleasing to you. Merry Christmas to All!

This is the first year I'm making homemade cinnamon rolls Christmas morning. I'm making The Pioneer Woman's recipe (1/2 recipe) on Thursday and will refrigerate until early Sunday.

I love to serve the rolls with some fruit. Dh is making Christmas dinner and we're only having his parents over, so it's a no stress day.

I do enjoy others sharing their casseroles because I keep a list of ideas in the back of my coupon binder and some holiday, I may break them out.

I like to keep it simple but nice I don't use the coffee maker I do fresh ground and use the french press. Keep an orange juice you like on hand and buy fresh fruit I choose blackberries, pomegranites and Satsumo this year. I ordered croissants and scones from the same bakery thats making my holiday cakes so they will be ready for the morning. I also make a brown sugar baked bacon. If anyone wants eggs I can make them but honestly it should be enough as is.

I know we are having fruit, cinnamon rolls, hash brown casserole and maybe just sausage. Not having a casserole really puts a damper on my menu!

Old lady here. WHO told you (the cook) what you could or could not serve for breakfast??? I can tell you that wouldn't fly in my household! I cater to food allergies / celiac but that's IT.

At the very least you could have overnight french toast (buttered brioche slices in a baking dish with the egg milk mixture poured over. Refrigerate overnight -put in cold oven and turn on the heat to 350F - bake until done. Don't call it a casserole;)

How about the Breakfast Lasagna from Crystal Palace ;) You could just use frozen waffles/pancakes/pound cake, make the custard and pastry cream the night before. Heat the waffles/pancakes when you get up, assemble and bake. Voila, breakfast sugar spike courtesy of your favorite mouse. :mickeyjum

not to hijack the thread, but did you know they don't serve this anymore? I was so disappointed on our last visit.

It seems like no two people in our family will eat the same thing for breakfast.:rolleyes1
I'd love a casserole of some kind. I also love eggs but the kids don't. I'm not very big on sweet stuff.. the rest of them are.
So we decided on cinnamon french toast, bacon, and a fruit tray.
There will be 6 of us so I'll get out the griddle and both frying pans. All the bacon into the pans, and one or two batches of french toast on the griddle should cover it.
I like to keep it simple but a little bit special. I'll likely go to the butcher and get really good bacon, we don't have it often.

I made the PW dough for a full batch yesterday to cook Wed and I'm freezing one pan for Xmas morning )

what is something quick and easy I can serve

"recipes" in general are not what I call quick and easy. Premade delicious and pretty food is available everywhere this time of year. Muffins, bagels and cream cheese, coffee cake, even donuts - coffee/tea/hot cocoa, with a pitcher of OJ. Easy schmeasy.

Agreed! Our Christmas morning breakfast will be Cinnabon cinnamon rolls and bacon.

I LOVE Blueberry stuffed french toast. I make it the day before and just add the egg mixture in the am. It is served at my favorite B&B and so easy to make!!

Blueberry Stuffed French Toast
So beautiful and delicious!

This recipe for Stuffed French Toast is perfect for the holidays or any time you have a crowd in for breakfast! We're positively famous for this here at The Manor, and in 2001 we were featured on Better Homes and Gardens TV show teaching the USA to make it! It goes together fast the night before and is easy to get into the oven in the morning, creating a colorful and delicious breakfast. It can be doubled and even tripled depending on how many you are serving. We love it with blueberries, and we freeze 500 lbs of berries so we can make this all winter long on Sunday mornings. It is also great with fresh cherries, peaches, applesbe creative!

Serves 10

1 loaf of egg (challah) bread or Texas Toast style bread
8-10 eggs
1 cup cream cheese
1 and 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

Cut the crust from the bread and cube into 1" chunks. Spray 9X13 glass baking dish with Pam. Layer 1/2 the bread in the bottom of the pan. Cut the cream cheese into small chunks and place in the pan over the bread. Spread half the fruit layer, then cover with remaining bread.
Place the rest of the fruit on top. This can store in the fridge overnight. In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, milk, syrup and butter. Pour carefully over the bread mixture using a cup. Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour. When bread cubes begin to brown you can cover with aluminum foil as it finishes baking.

Cut into pieces and serve with sliced ham or sausages. Drizzle with extra syrup if you like.

I googled them when I saw this post. Are they as good as they sound? :yay:

We will be out of town until Christmas Eve. Since you said you freeze them, I might could do them ahead of time. Do you fix them all the way and freeze the finished result? If so, how long does it take them to cook (and what temp) from the frozen state (hate to ask what may be dumb questions, but I am NOT much of a cook!). Thanks! :)

Just a suggestion for those new to sausage balls -- we found we like them even better when you put maple syrup on them, just like you would a pancake. I know it sounds odd, but it is delicious!

Our Christmas morning menu will consist of sausage balls (pre-made the night before), cinnamon rolls from the bakery, and I'm going to add those hash brown cups, because they sound really good! We also have mimosas, and put our Keurig to work with inidividual cups of whatever people want. I love a chai latte, my dh will be having espresso, my ds will have milk hot chocolate, my dad will go for regular Dunkin' Donuts coffee. We will fill up because we won't eat until much later, our Celtics are starting the NBA season! :shamrock:

We always have bowls of fruit and nuts to make fruit salad (lots of picky eaters, so people can make their own and include or omit things like fresh coconut, walnuts, kiwi etc). Also always have a lineup of bagels, cucumbers, cream cheese, and lox. Every year, no matter what types of bagels are put out, the onion bagels are the most popular with anyone over 10.

Step away from the sausage balls and no one will get hurt!! JK.... just had to tease you a bit!...........P

we usually do a breakfast hot dish, but things are changing this year. I am thinking I will get croissants, and then just do egg & cheese croissants. And some good orange juice.

This year I'm really doing something easy I'm picking up Krispy Kreme Donuts the day before and we'll have, coffee, hot chocolate and milk with them! They have some really great Christmas donuts like a snowman, red velvet, holiday sprinkles etc.:lovestruc
