I made a time capsule for my dd's during the year 2000. I took pics of our house, cars, pets, and things around town - our church, bank, grocery store, gas station, my workplace, DH's workplace, etc. I also included a register receipt from the grocery store - prices of milk, bread, etc, and from the gas station. Wow - those 2000 gas prices are already looking pretty antiquated!
As for the school's capsule, what about local and international newspapers, especially about what's going on with the military. Also, perhaps in addition to predictions, the children could write about what they think about current events and what it's like for their mom or dad to be serving their country at this time. Have them include what a "normal" day is like for them - do they ride a bus to school or go in a car, what do they do after school - sports, homework, watch tv, play in a park, do they play an instrument or participate in other organized activities, etc. What are their favorite foods (maybe a pic or magazine pic of the foods would be fun too) In fact, magazine ads in general could be interesting, they show current fashions, hairstyles, even things as mundane as kitchen appliance or dog food ads could be interesting in 2052!
Have fun!
Laurie
