What to price clothing for a garage sale?

In my area kids clothing goes from 25 cents to 1 dollar per piece. Brand names don't matter.

i'm pricing all my clothing at 25 cents a piece just to get rid of it~! i think there are some that are definitely worth more, but just doing all 25 cents so i don't have to price items individually... i'll just have a sign "all clothing 25 cents each"!

Here in the midwest I generally see:

T-shirts .50 - $1. Pants, shorts, shirts, skirts $1-2. Cotton dresses, sweaters $2. Holiday dresses $2-5. Outfits $2-3. Lightweight jackets $2-3. Coats $3-5. That is provided there are no stains, rips or missing buttons. Shoes in really good conditon probably $1 a pair, maybe $2-3 if they are Stride-Rite or a similar brand.

For the stuff that isn't in good condition, 25 cents, even shoes.

I'm having a sale this weekend and I am putting all of my in-great-condition kids clothes at $1 each except for a couple of holiday dresses and a few pairs of brand new, never worn shoes. I want to make a few bucks but don't want to bring the stuff back in the house and I don't want to deal with craigslist people or having to haul it up to Goodwill.

hrm not sure what you guys are selling but out here depend on what it is I've seen designer jeans at $10 but then again these are jeans that go for $200+ new. I've also seen chanel suit going for $200 and for the condition it was in I thought it was a bargain.

(Better) brand name clothing (E.G. Children's Place, Sonoma) at least $1.25-2.00. Old Navy, Gap, graphic tees and others $1.00 or less. Plain tees, play clothes usually run $0.50 or less. Onesies run $0.10-0.25, depending on if they are plain or have writing/embroidery on them.

Bigger pieces like coats, jeans, dresses, whole outfits go for around $2-3 or more.

OR you could price it my way... how much would YOU pay for it at a garage sale? then add $0.25

I buy a lot of brand name clothing (gap, gymboree, etc.) I've had success at pricing those items (which still look brand new) for $3 a piece (shirts, pants, doesn't matter). If it's an outfit I charge $5-$6.

Other brands (from kohls, target, jcpenny's, Old Navy, Children's Place etc..) are anywhere from $1-$2 depending on what it is. And again in brand new looking condition.

Anything not in good condition is .50 cents.

I actually have people that come back to my garage sales every year because they like the clothes that much. Heck, they look brand new still!!

Well, I sure don't have $200 jeans or Chanel suits...lol. If I were tyring to sell something like that I'd go to an upscale consignment shop instead of doing a yard sale.

I bought a pair of True Religion jeans about 6 weeks ago at a yard sale for $1. I have also bought Burberry, Armani, Versace and Miu Miu. On the flip side I've tried to sell a $200 Hugo boss sweater for $1 and a Ralph Lauren dress for the same price and brought them back inside at the end of the day unsold. Clothes are everywhere: yard sales, Craigslist, thrift stores, consignment shops, church sales. Anything that plentiful is extremely hard to unload at a premium price. If you have trouble selling items like that at a premium try putting a $10 price tag on your American Eagle jeans and see how many takers you get. People do try, we go to yard sales every week and see overpriced clothing sitting there. Sometimes the seller will get lucky but the experienced people know that a better deal is available.

We sold a bunch of clothes at our yard sale a few weeks ago. We priced things at $1/item and $2-3 per item for "name brands" like Gymbo, Ralph Lauren, Talbot's kids and $5 for holiday outfits (pants, shirt, sweater or dress). We had ONE person tell us we were too expensive LOL. She came at the end of they day after we sold a ton of clothes.

We did organize it by gender and size to make things easier and didn't put out any stained or overly worn items. It just made things look more appealing IMHO. One woman said she felt like she hit the jackpot. Another woman said she was buying for an orphanage and then only picked out Gymboree items and asked for a discount since it was for a charity. Is it bad that we didn't believe her? :confused3

It was a lot harder to sell clothes at this years garage sale than it was last year.

Around here it seems to be;

kids clothes= 25-50 cents

Adult gently worn, current style= .50 -1.00

T-shirts, shorts and other casual items, good condition. .25-.50

Designer new with tags still attached= 2-5% of the price tag.

(I will never sell new with tag items in a garage sale again. )

I think more people are choosing to shop air conditioned thrift stores .
