How much would you pay a 14 year old to watch your dog. Basically, she will walk him three times a day and play with him for about 15 minutes each time. She will feed him twice and give him treats on the other visit. I asked her and she said "whatever is fine." I really want to be fair to her so let me have it....what would you give per day?

Gee, I've never paid anyone to take care of my dog, with the exception of leaving her at a kennel once, right after we moved to a new town where we knew no one.

How much does your local kennel charge per night? Maybe call and check. Then pay her 1/3 to 1/2 of that. You didn't say for how many nights. But maybe $10 per day.

Like I said, I really don't know. Just throwing out ideas. Then again, she's not staying the night with them.

I want to say I got paid in the $20 to $40 range (don't exactly remember how much as it was over 10 years ago) to dog sit at my best friend's house when she went on vacation for a long weekend with her parents when I was about 19. I saved money on gas because I lived out in the country then as I stayed "in town" with the dog. The fridge was also stocked and I could help myself. Of course, that's no different than any other time I was there with my friend. :)

i'd pay her $10-15 per day and pick her up a little surprize ie disney t etc
This is what i'm planning to do when the meighbour watches my fat cat :paw: and guinea pigs, as for the dog she'll be going to Nana and Papa's :dog:

I agree with the above posters - $12 to $15 per day sounds reasonable.

We paid the high school girl who stayed with our doggie $100 for the week and got her a gift that was personal. She did a great job and actually stayed about 9 days total.

Our neighbor high school girl doesn't stay here but regardless of the number of days we are gone, we pay her $100.

Nothing like a crisp $100 bill for a teenager.

We very much appreciate that we don't have to take our dog to the kennel. She also feeds our rabbits.

I will so miss her when she goes to college.

I hope we're paying enough. :flower:

For that kind of money I just board our dog. DD named her Princess :dog2: The kennal charges 12.00 a day. My Dad died this past easter and so I had a friend take care of the dog we left early Thur. am and the girl came over after she got off work and stayed over @ night and let her out around 10am and she got home around midnight. She had people over, broke the dogs 30.00 leash and locked herself out of the house. They had to break the doorknob off to get in. We wnded up spending 80.00 to fix all she had done. THen she had the nerve to ask for money. I had planned on paying her but after all that I was like your pay is replacing things. And having people over just really topped it off. She called and said I'm having a kicking party @ your house I hope its ok. And she is a 29 year old woman from my church. We are just planning on boarding Princess in 2 weeks when we go to dis.

AFter reading these posts, I am thinking about $10.00 cash per day plus maybe a little gift of sorts? What do you think?
I am not worried about parties or anything like that. The girl I am asking to do this is a friend of my dd and I know the family. In fact, I am willing to bet that the mom comes over with the daughter just to make sure she locks up okay.

We have 3 dogs and a cat... we have a buddy of our son that's been watching them now for 3 or 4 years... we pay him 10 dollars a day - he comes in the morning - let's them out - makes sure there is water... then comes back in the morning and let's them in.. and feeds / waters. ( We have a HUGE fenced yard...)

If he doesn't have school - he'll periodically come over in the middle of they day... I always leave tons of food for him - soda/chips/basic teen junk. He's allowed to play Xbox Live.. whatever (he's 17 now.. ) Works great for all of us - he's usually here anyway... :rotfl2: So he just gets paid for it when we're gone... :rotfl: We also usually bring him some goofy thing back from the trip -

Wow y'all have some cheap pet sitters! :goodvibes Where I live to board a dog at a kennel runs about $22-26 per day :guilty: I was going to hire a neighbor kid to come watch our dog for our next trip and was thinking of paying him $20 a day :confused3

I pay our 22 yr. old niece about 10 a day to house and pet sit. She's said we don't need to pay her; she enjoys getting away from home and having a house to herself. The local kennel charges about $12 for a small dog, more for a larger one. It's been a while.

She also feeds are 2 cats and waters the plants.

Our local kennel (the really nice one) is $12.00 a day for 50-100 lb dog (includes Iams Eukanuba). The hotel room is $35.00 (has TV and couch, carpeting and windows not a cage). My DD who is 9 pet sit for the neighbor (guess who did most of the work) for a week. One dog and three smelly rabbits ... cleaned cage and fed veggies and fresh water for all daily. She got paid $25.00!!! Never again, it was too much work. On top of that, there was a problem with the pool and I had to call about that (the skimmer thing got caught on the ladder and made a hole so it was losing water rapidly). I think for 3 walks and 45 minutes a day of play time should be worth $15.00 a day plus a tee shirt.

Our kennel charges $35.00 per day.

I would pay her $15.00 per day, plus get her something small. Just knowing your dog will be able to stay in the comfort of his/ her own home is worth it! :dog2:

I'd say 10-15.00 per day plus a nice little souvinier! :)
We paid 34.00 a day when we went on vacation. I'd gladly pay someone 15.00 a day to come feed Brady and let him out!

I have a pet sitter and she charges $14. per visit. The kennel is $20. per day per dog. Since my mom past away last year, I put my 2 dogs in the kennel in March. This Sept I am having my sister stay overnite and paying the sitter to come in 1x a day.

The two professional pet sitters I used both charged $15-$20 per visit, 30 minutes a visit.

Though if you have a dog, you have to pay that twice a day.

They would also pick up your mail, water your plants, alter light settings, etc.

If these friends/relatives are in the immediate neighborhood, and don't have to drive more then 2 miles, I would say $10 a day PLUS a gift is perfectly nice for a teenager. I would pay an adult more, and if they had to drive further, I would definitely pay them more. My good friend is coming to watch our 2 cats while we're gone. Since we have a free-feed bowl and water fountain, she only has to come 3 times, but has to drive 15 miles to get here. I plan on paying her $50, and I told her that if she wants to stay here (she's living with her parents while she's looking for a job), she can.

We just paid a 19 year old $60 for 3 1/2 days/2x a day and my brother will do the other 3 1/2 and we'll probably give him the same. When I checked into a kennel the only reputable one that is around here was going to charge $275 for one week so we are saving a lot of money. I know there are cheaper kennels but we had a really bad experience with one a few years ago so we would never go anywhere we haven't heard tons of feedback about. :pug:

We pay a pet sitter $10 per visit (3 visits a day) and that's really cheap--most professional pet sitters around here charge $15 per visit. I would pay a teenager probably about half that (although I have to say I've had some really awful pet sitters, and I don't think I could trust a teenager unless I knew the parent would be involved).

Our vet charges about 25 bucks per night for the dog and around 16 per night for the cat, plus our animals hate to be kenneled, so the pet sitter works out very well.

Our Dog Walker charges $10 per visit for a shorter walk (15 minutes) and $15 for a longer walk (25 - 30 minutes).

My neighbor has had to go out of town a few times, and I believe the Dog Walker charges $40 per weekday to actually stay in his home with the pooch, and $50 per weekend day.

If we couldn't get a friend to stay with our doggie, we'd have to pay our Dog Walker. Our dog would just die if he was left in a kennel (abandonment complex, poor thing).

This is one reason we have a dog walker. This way, our doggie already knows, trusts and likes the person who would take care of him in our absence, and hopefully wouldn't get sick from stress.
