what to pack for Jan 5-12 trip!

I'm kind of confused about what kind of clothes to pack for 4 young kids for our upcoming trip. Some say winter coats and gloves, and others say spring jacket. What has been your experience???

Hi, we are going those exact dates too! My son is 3 and we will already have the winter jackets since we will be coming from Missouri, but I also plan to pack jeans, a couple short and long sleeved t-shirts and a few sweatshirts. I keep hearing it will be chilly at night so I'm not sure about shorts right now. It's is getting so close!!

I have been to WDW a few times during January. The weather has been everything from low70s to downright freezing at night (so cold that groundskeepers put plastic bags around the tropical plants to keep them warm).

I have worn short sleeves with long pants or even a winter coat with gloves. I don't recall needing shorts.

I plan to watch the weather station predictions for a few days before we go.

i suppose it depends on whose idea of "winter jacket" you're talking about. Our winter jackets in FL. aren't what most of the Northerners consider a "winter" jacket. It's best at all times in FL. to pack for multiple types of weather. I would pack in layers. you may be comfortable during the day in just pants and a long sleeve shirt. This week we wore shorts and t-shirts most of the week. I've been to WDW in Jan when it was cold enough for ME to refuse to go to the parks but we saw people in the pool (mind you the lifeguards were wearing fleece pants, hoodies and beanies) So I would plan for layers and definitely take hats and gloves. We got caught in a cold front last Nov. where we were wearing shorts the day before and as soon as the sun went down the gift shop was FLOODED w/ ppl (including me and DH) buying sweatshirts and hats and gloves.
You won't need shorts but you wont need a parka either.

Lol - we are going Jan 2-8, and I keep wondering the same thing. Since I am coming from cold weather, I'll be wearing my winter coat (parka), but am definitely planning on bringing my fleece and a lightweight hoodie, which I can also layer together if necessary. Plus gloves for everyone. As for clothes, I figure at minimum 2 pair pants, 1 pair capris, 2 pair shorts - and I'll add more of the appropriate category depending on the long-range forecast when I am packing! (If it is in the 70's, I may wear shorts, even if the locals are in long pants. And shorts pack small.)

Last year we were there for the marathon weekend. I had watched the weather for 2 weeks before we left. It was around 65 every day. I packed hoodies and jeans. Literally as we were walking out the door I said to myself "65 might seem warm to us (since we are from Chicago) so I better throw in a couple pairs of shorts". It is a good thing I did because it averaged between 85 and 90 our ENTIRE trip (not the evenings though). It was in the 80's for the marathon which is way too hot. The year before the marathon was around 40 degrees.

I know you don't want to hear it but you will need to pack a little bit of everything and you will probably only use part of it (we never pulled out our jeans the entire trip because it was so warm). We are going again for marathon this year and after last year I'm sure we will over pack again.

We went in January of this year. I checked weather.com daily up to the day I packed to stay on top of the weather forcast.

I packed jeans and capri pants; long sleeve t-shirts; short sleeve t-shirts; sweatshirts; and Northface jackets.

A normal day for us was jeans with a t-shirt and sweatshirt or jacket. We would then take off the sweatshirt or jacket about mid-day and then put them back on at night.

We were there @ this time last year. The weather varied a bit, but I remember wearing shorts/skorts 4 days, jeans with sweatshirts 1 day, and capris 2-3 days. We needed longer pants and sweatshirts some nights. One night we were fine in our summer clothes. We tried to swim, but found it too cold, and we are from MA. I also recall that it did not rain for us once!

Seriously, just pack it all!
