I know San Angel Inn really isn't known for great food, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat alongside a pyramid! Does anyone have any suggestions on what food to order and what I should avoid?

We really liked the food at San Angel Inn.

DH had the chicken mole. It has a chocolate sauce. Very strange but was good. I guess mole is very traditional, had only heard of it before we tried it. DH enjoyed it.
I had the sirloin with black beans and plantains. That was delish! The sirloin was cooked perfectly and the plantains melted in your mouth.

Also for dessert, get something with the carmel sauce. It is to die for!

Enjoy your meal. Many here don't recommend it, but we liked it. Infact we were talking about eating there while at dinner tonight. We were at our local tex mex place that we love and while SAI isn't tex mex, it made us think of it.
It really is cool to eat there and good food.

San Angel is one of our favorite places to eat.:thumbsup2 I usually order the sirloin asado con chilaquiles. Delish! For dessert I get the white chocolate bread pudding with the Mexican caramel milk. DH orders the pork tacos and a top shelf margarita!

Ooh, just typing those words makes me wish I was there! We actually ate here twice our last trip because my in-laws were completely in love with it! :goodvibes

I like to get the tostadas de jaiba (crab tostadas) as an appetizer and the Pollo A Las Rajas - (grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onion strips, cream sauce, and fresh cheese $24) as my entree, followed by the flan for dessert! I have eaten there twice and the food was great both times.

I love the flautas. I usually get the steak meal that comes with rice and beans and it's pretty good. I'm going there again in a few weeks and would like to try something different this time. We mainly go for the atmosphere!

Pollo a las rajas -- THAT's what my uncle ordered that I tried and absolutely loved! It was a tad spicy for my taste, but I really liked the flavor. I ordered the steak, but I would have traded him for that chicken dish. Mmmm!

Camarones al Ajillo - best shrimp I've had on property. Honestly one of the best shrimp dishes I've ever had. I normally try not to finish at dish at Disney so I'm not bloated feeling when we walk out and move on to the next attraction, but I couldn't help myself.

I could have sat there and ate the Tacos de Cochinita Pibil until I burst. :)

How about if you are eating lunch inside the restaurant and you just want something like nachos, with all the fixings of course. Meat, cheese, salsa etc...Are these even on the menu for an entree or app or are they just at the walk up. :confused3

Thanks for your suggestions! I feel better about the ADR now that I am hearing that people enjoy the food there!

we enjoyed our food there. I had the steak that came with the stuffed pepper and fried plantains. the stuffed pepper was REALLY good

I'm pretty sure this is what I had last time, although it has been awhile, and I agree that it was great. I know that I had the tortilla soup for an appetizer and really enjoyed that. In case you don't know, tortilla soup is like a spicy tomato soup topped with chunks of avocado and crumbled tortilla chips. I like San Angel Inn, both for the food and the atmosphere. My mom and I like the margaritas a lot too :goodvibes

They do have fresh chips and salsa like most Mexican restaurants, but no nachos bel grande type of apps/entrees. Just at the walk-up.

We really enjoy San Angel Inn. I always order the Filete Motuleno, which is a beef tenderloin entree. It is so delicious!

San Angel Cantina (the outdoor CS) is currently closed for a major refurbishment until fall, and its temporary replacement, Taqueria del Lago, does not have nachos on the menu.

THE PLANTAINS! I know it's such a simple appetizer/side dish, but I LOVE them at SAI. Served with some sour cream and sugar to dip them in, wow. If these were available at Cantina we'd eat them every single time we were in Epcot!

Thank you for that. I may still just ask just for the heck of it. :rolleyes:To see if they would put it together for me. All they can say is no and that would be fine. :upsidedow

I ate there about 20 years ago and I am really looking forward to this ADR. I have not made ressies there, because of my kids. However, this trip I have decided Mommy gets to pick an ADR she wants:thumbsup2
I just am a sucker for the atmosphere and I think this is also one of the more romantic places to eat, never mind the food.

My wife and I love it a San Angel Inn, the food is great, last year we had a party of five and we all ordered the Pollo a las Rajas :lmao:, Loved it, I order it every year.:thumbsup2

I always get the Sopa Azteca and the Mahi Mahi. I just love them both! I liked the Mahi Mahi better when it was served with chipotle mashed taters, but it's still good with the rice. Grrr. Might need to try and squeeze this one in. I miss it so much!
