What to get a woman for her 75th birthday present?

My DH's Aunt is turning 75 and we are having a surprise party for her on sunday. We all have NO IDEA what to get this woman. She lives pretty simply, so we are torn about what to get her. We have given her jewelry in the past , so thats pretty much out. Any idea's??????????????

Now I know some people will say that this is tacky but what if you just get a big decorated box or bottle or vase and put so much money in it per person and give it to your Aunt so she may spend it the way she chooses. If your Aunt is anything like my Granny she doesn't have a lot of cashflow anyways and can actually buy frivalous things with the extra cash. We did the twice for my granny but now she reuqests that on birthdays or holidays we give money to charity because she says that there are more people out in the world that need more than she does.

My granny is going to be 83 this year and doesn't like "dust collectors" and it never fails that will mention to the kids and grandkids in passing that she had her eye on something and we all end up buying it for her. One year she got 5 pairs of shoes and the next year 8 different kinds of sweat suits. We like this way better.

We usually look around the house to see what needs to be done/replaced and then the family pitches in for the gift. In the past, we have bought easy chairs, new kitchen floor etc. My DH parents really love that. If you can't do that, does she have family from out of state? You could give her an airline ticket to see them.

Can you get a video made w/pictures...some of her from when she was young to current age, and all her family...then have it set to music? I had one of these made for my best friend, and she loved it!

My mom is 72, and she would love all kinds of things. GC to book stores, clothing stores, or even Walmart or the pharmacy she uses if she has expensive meds. Gas cards would be nice too! Heck, my mom would like Disney dollars!

For Christmas my family gets my 85 year young grandma the "Fruit of the Month" club from Harry and Davids. Seniors really need fresh fruit, and H&D's has good stuff. If the full year is too $$$ then you can get shorter lenghts of time. They have a website, I think it's www.harryanddavids.com

My grandma loved the National Geographic magazines I got her. I noticed one day that she had some and asked her about them. I got her a subscription.
My grandma loved doing things, more than receiving things.

My grandmother always like cash or scratch off lottery tickets. She liked to take those bus trips with her friends. All the money she got for her birthday, mothers day or Christmas she put away for her trips. We had an 80th birthday surprise party for my grandmother. Not long after the party she asked me to help her put all the pictures from her party in a scrapbook. She loved that book and I have fond memories of spending hours with her working on that book and reliving the party every time she looked at the pictures. I really miss her.

I doubt she needs any more dust collecting stuff. No gifts might be appropriate. Otherwise go with cash, gift certificate to store she shops at or something specific you know she needs.

My FIL is 77 and so hard to buy for..Now we get him GC to the supermarket and to restaurants he likes to go to.
He loves it!

For my moms 75th birthday party most people either gave her 75.00 cash or a gift cert for 75.00.

I would go with cash or a gift certificate, too. Or, if you could find out a trip that she would like to make perhaps you could pay for it or at least help out. If she lives on social security money is probably tight for her.

I just went to a 75th birthday party for my Godmother.


I bought a mini scrapbook and filled it with pictures taken over the years starting back when she and my mom were teenages, up through their weddings, having kids, and ending with pictures taken over the last 15 or so years at their kids weddings.

It was a big hit at the party.

If you can do the scrapbook, plus gemerational thing, I'd go with that. Well, honestly, I'd tape thre quarters on the top of it too. Part wiseacre, part of the whole "when she was a child, those three coins were a fortune." Heck any gift I'd give would have those three shiny coins.
