My Godchild is getting ready to receive the sacrament of first communion. What would be an appropriate present? I was thinking along the lines of a nice gold cross necklace, but I am open to ideas.

Thanks,

Suzi

I'm trying to remember what my dd got--I think her Godparent got her a necklace. That is fine.

Pretty much anything that commorates the milestone is fine. :)

I got my daughter a precious moments figurine that represents the first communion.

My DD made hers last weekend and her godmother gave her a ring w/and R ingraved in it,She already had a cross for her baptism.

I think that would perfect!

Cash!

Funny story, my friend had a luncheon for her son's first communion last weekend. While nobody was looking, the kid got into the cards and took all the cash out then pocketed it. :lmao: He was walking around with wads of cash coming out both pockets, trying to look all innocent like he didn't do anything wrong.

I love it when my friends' kids do ornery things. ;)

A nice rosary is a good idea too. The kids here did alot of that kind of stuff to prepare for their first. They come in so many colours you could pick her /his favourite.

There is alot of jewelery out there right now , bracelets , necklaces etc. My dd got alot last year. She doesn't wear any of it. No a jewelery girl I guess.

You really can't go wrong with anything with a cross. Card stores are full of this kind of stuff right now.

A nice picture frame that is commemorative of the event would be nice. Sometimes you can get them engraved.

A Godparent is an very important role model in their lives and I'm sure she'll enjoy whatever you decide :goodvibes. I gave the little girl I help take care of a guardian angel necklace. She loved it and wore it for her 1st Communion. Among other gifts she rec'd were a cross necklace, ear rings, charm bracelet, religious figurine, a ceramic cross wall hanging and a bible.

I agree that from a Godparent a lasting memento would be nice. I got a nice silver locket from my Godparents that I still have. A nice gold cross would be an excellent idea. FYI, my kids each got about 10 rosaries so from our experience, get her a cross. We got DD cross earrings, which at the time she loved but not so much any more and is always asking to wear my cross necklace.

A bible with an inscription from you would be nice. There is a really nice assortment of bible totes for children available too. It's cute to see the little ones carrying their bibles in the totes to church. They come in lots of colors and patterns and have pockets too.

My son's First Holy Communion was today. He recieved cash from most but he also recieved a nice cross on a black lanyard, and a cross to hang in his room. The cross on the laynard is great because it does not have any sharp/pointy edges. I also like the laynard as it has some give. It is very sporty and perfect for my active son. We will be bringing both to mass tomorrow to have them blessed.

My friend just got her niece(and Godchild) a Pandora bracelet with a Bible charm. I thought that was a great idea because she can add a charm for other occasions.

What does someone who isn't a Godparent get? My friend's kids are having their first communion in a couple weeks and I have no idea what I'm supposed to get them.

I'm not Catholic, so I don't feel right getting something religious. I'm Christian, but not of the Catholic denomination and we don't do 1st communion.

I hate giving cash as a gift. So.... gift cards? Or is that inappropriate for the event?

Cash or gift cards are very appropriate. We gave my nephew $10 (which for an 8 year old boy is a LOT of money). I know in some parts of the country kids get $100 or more for First Communion but not here.

Our standard gift for a baptism (our denomination doesn't do first communions) is a proof coin set for the year of birth. It is around $75.
