I have one night booked at Jambo...savanna view studio. I've never stayed at AKL before and am really excited about the one night there...before moving over to BWV.
Can anyone give me an idea as to what to expect as far as room location or type of savanna view we might expect? Thanks.

I love Jambo house. You will be on either the Uzima, Sunset or Arusha savannah, and I've had great animal views on all of them. I've also had times that I didn't see too many animals. They do take the animals out of the savannahs in the morning for feeding and health check ups, so I've learned not to expect to see animals in the morning...sometimes you do, and you've hit a good time and sometimes, well, the animals are gone. I think the ostrichs are always there, at least it seems that way to me.

Some of the walks to the room are very far. I prefer the Arusha savannah because there's an elevator that goes down to the ground level that lets you off very near the Mara for counter service. Sunset savannah would be my second choice. It was a very long walk to my DS's Uzima savannah studio room one time, so that would be my third choice.

Here is a drawing of Jambo House (the original AKL building). The AKV Savanna View rooms are on the 5th floor which is the top floor in all but the lobby area. Your room will be anywhere along the horseshoe or the spurs off the horseshoe or possibly the left side of the lobby area. The rooms along the two short front wings on either side of the main entrance (marked in lime green) are Value rooms. The rooms marked in yellow are Standard View. The orange blobs are GVs. The small areas along either side of the lobby marked in pink are Concierge (6th floor only).

In this drawing the Sunset Savanna is on the left (outside the horseshoe), the Uzima is on the right (outside), and the Arusha Savanna is the area inside the horseshoe. As you can see, you could end up close to the lobby or way out at the end of the last spur at one end of the horseshoe. The walk to those rooms is long but I think the animal viewing is better because the animals tend to go to the back of the savannas unless they are being fed.

The Arusha is the greenest savanna but the Sunset is looking much better now that Kidani is open. All of the savannas have giraffes but I think the Sunset Savanna has the most (five I think!) including two youngsters so if you like seeing lots of giraffes you will enjoy being on the Sunset Savanna even though the landscaping in parts of that savanna are not particularly nice due to the people pens.

When I look at Lisa's map, I see that DS's far out of the way room was on the Arusha savannah. None of our guests nor we have ever been on the Uzima that I know about. So you really can be out of the way on the Arusha savannah. We've just been very lucky.

We did see 5 giraffes last month on the Sunset Savannah and they were very active.

I thought I should post the entire drawing so that Diane can see where Kidani is (and how big it is!) relative to Jambo House. If your room is on the Sunset Savanna, you will be looking across at Kidani. Most of the savanna view rooms in Jambo House have some part of some building in the background (even on Arusha you see the other side of the horseshoe) so I don't find it to be a problem but didn't want you to be surprised when you get there!

I noticed that Kidani's pool looks like a bird in flight in your drawing!

expect to want to stay more than one night..waitlist for a couple nites..like split your stay few days at akv and few days at bwv

be sure to try breakfast there(bomas) and if you havent yet try dinner at bomas

Oh man, don't tempt me....I'm only at BWV for four nights as it is. This will be my friends first time staying DVC so I don't want to split it up too much. We added that first day in order to get better airfare.
I love Boma...hadn't really thought about eating there..duh. I love breakfast there. I'll have to book at least one meal there.
Thanks for the maps Lisa...they helped a lot. I would love to face Kidani....loved watching it being built off in the distance.
Yep.....I see many stays there in my future!!!!
