We have a small DVC contract and our planning on inviting three sets of friends. I need to rent points for them as they are not DVC-yet. I still new to DVC and have not rented point from other members. So if we are going in Sept 2009 what kind of points can I rent. I also assume that if the point can be transferred to me than I only have to be worried about use year. Thanks in advance for any assistance or is this a MS question??:confused3

MS has nothing to do with renting from another owner. You are only allowed one transfer per UY so choose wisely.

If you are going to book all the rooms at once and book before the 7 month window opens (February 09 for a September 09 vacation), you also need to worry about home resort.

Getting the points transferred into your account is a good idea - then you control the reservations and all of the associated arrangements (ME, DP, requests, etc.). As disneynutz already posted, you are only allowed one transfer per use year (either into your account or out of your account but not both in the same use year). So you will need to find one owner willing to transfer you the entire amount needed to make the reservations.

FWIW, we have had many sad tales here from owners who were left "holding the bag" when friends and family backed out on them. Don't let that happen to you. Unless you are treating, get the money for the points from them up front and make sure they understand that it is NOT refundable. If you are treating, try to get them to "put some skin in the game" early on - by purchasing airfare or tickets.

Good luck!

honestly - I would book your room - and then let them book on their own, they can reach rent points on their own, or pay cash. Isn't September one of the best times of year for bargains, I would think they would do much better just booking direct - plus getting some deals on dining or something. I would not book all that beause if someone cancels, your left with the fallout!

thanks for the replies, I forgot about one transfer per use year. I'm not treating(not that wealthy or nice i guess). So I'm collecting cash now.Anyone have experience getting 600 pts from one person?????? If I get the points transfered will I be able to use them at the 11 month window for my home resort???

thanks

Transfered points retain their home resort and UY.

I PMed you.

You will only be able to use them at the 11-month window if they are points from the resort you plan to stay at. If they are points from any other resort you will have to wait until the 7-month window.
