Is cardio or weights better for loosing weight? How much of each or one should i do? Is the eltical machine (love it) or treadmill better to loose weight? How many days a week should i go? Does it make a difference on time of day? I need to loose about 100 lbs. I been going for past week and half about 4 days a week for 30 mins and doing 50-70 crunches every time i go? I been eating healthier too should i join weight watchers online to help? I was maintaining my weight with no excersice and i improved what i was eating so in theroy i should loose weight but in the 2 weeks i been excersiseing and eating better i have not lost anything. I have serve asthma and have been over steriods for 3 months before that i was on high dose alot. So maybe the steriods still aren't letting me loose or i am building muscle i have lost. I don't know but i would like everyones opions. I am going to disneyworld for 10 days and with the humidity i need to be and in better shape to walk all over the place. I go to disneyland now and i do fine.

Congrats on getting to the gym and eating healthier! :thumbsup2 In order to lose weight, you need to combine both weights and cardio. Increasing your muscle mass helps burn more fat, plus it tones you and makes you lose inches. I usually do 30 minutes of weights followed by 30-35 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical or recumbent bike 3-5x a week. It is a good idea to do different cardio and weight routines so you 1) don't get bored and 2) your body doesn't get used to one kind of exercise.

You might be gaining muscle which is why the scale isn't moving. Try taking some measurements, if those are going down, then you know you are on the right track. Keep it up, you can do it! :cheer2:

for weights u are suppose to do a 3 day rotation right arm 1 days legs the next and stomach the next is this true or do all every time.

Ralika, as lovinaz mentioned, a combined weight/cardio program will be the most beneficial in the long run. It is important to vary your workout as mentioned not only because of boredom but also because your body becomes accustomed to the rhythm of that one exercise. It will become less beneficial after a while. The treadmill is the 'best' cardio machine - you can burn the most calories per hour with it. Of course, it's totally dependent on what you set the speed and the incline at vs. what you do on the elliptical. I think any machine or exercise that you love will be the best exercise for you!

You should also never ever use the same muscle groups to lift weights two days in a row. Lifting weights actually 'tears' the muscle and it requires a full day to recover. I've heard some trainers say that your abdominals are different and you can work those out every day. I don't know if that's true or not. You should aim to work out the big muscle groups two times a week - your arms, legs, abs routines on separate days should be fine if you do them all twice a week. Doing a little bit of weights almost every day will also boost your metabolism.
