What to do with this disney gift!?

Well - we love Disney, of course. But we received a very large disney themed cuckoo clock as a holiday gift. It looks like the castle - and it has around 56 cartoon characters painted on it. As I said, it is large, and would clearly be a focal point of any room. I really and truly don't want to hurt the giver's feelings - because I know that they meant well and were trying to be kind and thoughtful. This was an expensive item - about $200, I think. They will want us to hang it up, of course - but it is just not something that fits our home right now. What in the world do I do!? I have honestly never had such a tough situation. :confused3

Send it to me. ;)

If I like something I find a place for it. I'm not one to worry about a theme or anything. Sorry I can't be of any help.

I agree with the PP. I don't necessarily have themed rooms either but most every room has some kind of Disney item in it. I think I would choose a wall that would fit the clock and put it up. Leave it there for a while and see if it grows on you. Maybe you'll end up collecting other Disney things to put near it and, in a few years, you'll have a new look inspired by the clock.

It is a nice clock, but I could see how it would be hard to find a spot for it depending on the coloring of the rooms in your house.

Is that the clock? If it is, I don't really blame you. :rolleyes1 I love Disney, but I just don't have anywhere in my house that I could/would hang something like that. It just wouldn't go with the "theme" of my house, I guess. Do you have a spare bedroom or an office that you could hang it in?

:rotfl: That is some clock! I think I'd have to put that up in my kitchen. Long as it doesn't play "It's a small world" all day long.

That's a tough one. It's pretty cute, but a little bit "juvenile". Guest bathroom? :earsboy:

The salient question here is who is the giver? Someone likely to be in your house often or an occasional vistor? My FIL's wife has given our kids some "interesting" toys and they only come out when the ILs come over. Is it something you could hang up only when the giver is visiting?

Well, yes, that is the clock. It would be wonderful in a playroom - but we don't have one.

It's not something we can hang up just when they come. I guess we'd like to feel we can be honest - because we sure hate for them to spend so much on this item. But it's so hard b/c I don't have anywhere I want to put it and I don't want to hurt feelings.

In that case rather than put it in a room, I'd put it in a hallway surrounded by a few pics framed in keeping with the style of your house of your favorite WDW memories. If you're contemporary sort of people, you could turn some family pics in front of the castle into black and whites and frame them in simple, chic frames, that sort of thing. Sure it'll still be kind of 'sore thumb'y but at least there'd be some context. A hallway wouldn't screw up your decor too much.

You were dusting it and accidentally knocked it off the wall, breaking it into several pieces.

You left a window open and a large gust of wind knocked it off the wall.

Your house was burglarized and the only thing taken was the clock.

Before you had a chance to hang it, the dog knocked it off the table.

Even if I hated something, I would never do any of those thinngs! :sad2:

I am impressed that you have friends who would spend such a large amount on money on you!

I too would find some obscure location for the time being and maybe eventually phase it out. Or are you thinking that you should return it to them so they can get a refund? It's a difficult decision. Sorry not to be more help!

Is it possible to exchange it for different item(s)? I know that doesn't help with an explanation but it least it wouldn't just sit in a box somewhere.

Okay, another disney nerd here, and YES I'd hang it in my office. Cute!

Clearly whoever gave that to you was thinking you'd love it, its certainly not a cheap gift or one that anyone would gift.
I think any hallway would be fine...................not necessarily the center of attention and no batteries in it.............:confused3
I would not give it back as I think THAT is not acceptable................just hang it up, laugh at the craziness of it and walk on...........you must have one space to hang it...........:rolleyes1
