Hey, sorry I didn't reply about things to do in Pigeon Forge. I was at WDW. Ha! I've now decided I NEED to go 3 times a year. I didn't even cry this time when we left because we'd just been over New Years and we're going back in the fall.
I found this website for a flea market for you: www.greatsmokiesfleamarket.com. It looks huge.
There's Dollywood theme park and water park. They're fun, but as my DD said this weekend, everything is better at Disney World. Thunderhead and Tennessee Tornado are our favorites....those are roller coasters. The thing that makes Dollywood special are the shows and the exhibits, like horseshoe making. We especially enjoy the bird show.
There are tons of dinner theaters and they all have been voted the Best of Something. We always laugh about this. We enjoy the Black Bear Jamboree because kids eat free. But we find ourselves thinking we could see the Country Bears at WDW. It's shorter, but same stuff. The Dixie Stampede is great but expensive. Your resort will probably have brochures and may be able to sell discount tickets to many of the dinner shows. There's comedy, oldies, country, etc. One that we plan to try next time is the Chinese acrobats.
Our favorite restaurant is Apple Barn, I think. I get the name mixed up because there's also an Apple Tree. It's not the one on the main parkway. The place we like is closer to Sevierville. You get apple juice and apple hush puppies with every meal. It's closed on an odd day, Wednesday maybe. We've been disappointed before so check before you go.
The Smoky Mountains are incredible. If you go to their website you can read about all the different trails and pick the one that's right for you. We have little ones, so we look for short and easy. You can also drive through Cades Cove.
There are lots of places to go white water rafting...too scary for me. Helicopter rides. Horseback riding. Plenty of mini golf. There's a NASCAR race track place that looks fun. And one of the world's only indoor skydiving places.
There's a Boyd's Bear store that is HUGE. It has something similar to Build a Bear inside it.
Gatlinburg has Ripley's Believe It or Not museum and a nice aquarium. There's a haunted house tour that we plan to do eventually. Hayrides through the town, but that might just be during certain times of year. There's lots of cute little shops and probably plenty of antiques...my kids don't enjoy shopping.
If you'll have a car, you might want to drive through the mountains to Cherokee. There's a place where you can learn about the Cherokee tribe. I think it's great, but I was a history teacher.
You won't get bored. We do enjoy it there, but it's not something pulled toward. My MIL on the other hand, would live there if she could. Feel free to PM me if this little novel wasn't enough for you!
