What to do with teen drinking?

I would say something like "Lucy Lush, you may not know it, but I also check out myspace.com and I happened to see your blog. What you mention about drinking has me concerned, mostly for your safety. I don't want you to get hurt and I certainly don't want to see anyone else get hurt." I would also make sure she knows to call me if she ever needs a ridem for any reason.
This would be the 2nd thing I did, talking to my own children would be first. The 3rd thing would be to talk to her parents.

I do agree that it could be dicey depending on the family relationship...who's brother/sister are the parents? In my family it might be slightly uncomfortable but I would bring up the situation anyway. I wouldn't want to be at her funeral thinking I could have prevented the situation but didn't.

i personally think that the drop in auto fatalities has more to do with an awareness about it. Also about a strong knowledge about dui penalties. Most of the teens I know drink but few of them will drive.
I agree that most parents are in denial about their teen drinking. I worry alot about my teens and drinking and have had alot of talks. But i've also stressed responsibility. I've allowed them to drink in the safety of our home. Not alot, but drinks here and there. I'm not saying my way is right. I'm not sure at all. I just know that teens drink and I want mine to be responsible.

I am a 21 yo and I think you should tell her parents. I think thatis the only loving thing you can do. I can't imagine how hard it would be, since I'm not in that situation, but there is a problem there and it won't go away if you are passive. Change needs to happen before someone gets hurt. One of my really good friends in high school was killed by a drunk driver, and I have not seen the appeal of drinking since. I also have friends that have gotten in trouble with their parents and the parents used tough love on them and they made a complete 180. They will not like you at that moment, but hopefully they will come to respect you for that.
