What to do with strawberries?

Make a stawberry pie! We made one a couple of weeks ago it was AMAZING! We just googled for a recipe....we even made a second one with splenda and it was almost as good as the regular one!

My hubby makes the best Strawberry Smoothies! Not sure of the amounts, he just wings it, but he adds: strawberries, can add a banana if you have one, vanilla yogurt, vanilla extract, a little bit of sugar, a dash of milk, and of course ice. Yummy! We went strawberry picking and drank smoothies with every meal for a couple of days! Kids love them!

My DD 14 loves strawberry smoothies so when we get fresh berries I freeze them in snack size bags for her and she uses her snack size bag, a banana, and milk and blends away. Depending on how ripe the banana is, is whether or not we will add sugar.

Great ideas! Thanks to everyone for sharing.

We like to make fruit and yogurt parfaits like at Mc D's. Vanilla yogurt, frozen blueberries, frozen cut up strawberries, and granola.

They are also great on cereal. I like them on Rice Chex the best, but Cheerios and Corn (or frosted) Flakes are also good topped with berries.

I just made 2 strawberry pies. My mom gave me the recipe and it was VERY EASY, cheap, and DELICIOUS!

Strawberry Pie

1 store bought pie crust, bake according to directions and cool.

(Gordon Food Service sells 5 crusts for 5.99. They are GREAT!)

Place 4 cups of quartered strawberries in cool pie crust. (about 1.5 pounds)

In small pot mix:

1 cup cold water
3/4 cup sugar
4 Tbsp. cornstarch

Heat on high until boiling. Stir constantly. Once boiling reduce heat to low and stir until mixture is translucent (it will never get totally clear). Stir in one 3 ounce package of strawberry jello. Stir until jello is dissolved.

Pour over strawberries in pie shell. Refrigerate and serve. Will be chilled enough to serve in one hour. Top with cool whip. :)

If you slice them then freeze them you can make endless strawberry shortcakes.

Mmm, ok, now i want to make some!

Here's a tip; use the pillsbury dinner biscuits, dip top side in sugar before you cook them, then put them in a bowl, pour the sliced strawberries that you mashed with some sugar over them, then a scoop of vanilla ice cream (get the good stuff) and then top with real whip cream. To DIE for...

Besides smooties, you can use frozen strawberries for yogurt...my kids love when I make hem a dish of yogurt, then frozen berries, the top it with cool-whip.

Hey, I heart disney, you spelled "substitute" wrong in your siggy.

Sorry, had to mention it-I proofread for a living

Ok I posted like 4 hours ago that I had just made 2 strawberry pies. Well one is gone compliments of the sleepover kids and the other has been claimed by dh to take to work tomorrow.

The kids just went to the store to buy more jello for more pies tomorrow. They claim they want to learn to make it. I know they just want to eat it. :D

Have to get up from the computer now and go make a strawberry shortcake...... At least all the stuff I bought is low or no fat, just calories...:lmao:

I'd love to know how you make strawberry dumplings. Would you mind sharing your recipe? Please?::yes::

You've gotten some truly mouthwatering suggestions! We never have enough strawberries to freeze any, but we do always have a gazillion blackberries and huckleberries. My important freezing advice is to freeze them laid out in a single layer on cookie sheets before putting them into whatever you are going to ultimately store them in in the freezer, otherwise you end up with a huge block of berry. Not cool. Quite irritating when you just want to use a cup or two and have a ten cup berry iceberg. LOL

Okay, but you have GOT to try this. Get a little container of sour cream (low fat or fat free if you really must) and a little dish of brown sugar. Dip the strawberry in the sour cream, then the brown sugar and then eat it. Sounds weird, but it is heaven!

Now why did you have to go and do that?!? :rotfl: This does sound heavenly and I don't have any strawberries in the house. Guess who is going picking tomorrow!?!:thumbsup2

I found this website a few days ago and I think it's great. www.pickyourown.org. You can look up by your state where to pick fruit, berries, veggies, etc. It also tells you how to freeze and can veggies/fruit and other stuff.

Once, I had too many strawberries... I washed them cut them in half with the stems off, and put them in zip top bags in the freezer thinking they would make great strawberry shortcake during the year. About two weeks later, I'm at the grocery store and think about the strawberries so I buy the whipped topping and cake for dessert. I get home to thaw out and add sugar to the strawberries and can't find them. I take everything out of the freezer and no strawberries. Soon, during this process, my littlest angel, then about 12, walks in, sees me, and asks what I am looking for. I say the strawberries I had up here. She says "Oh, the frozen ones in the zip top bags? Those were really good!!!" She had eaten all the strawberries frozen... evidently, they make a great snack that way on a hot day:confused3

Thanks for all the awesome ideas! This may be crazy, but I just bought a pampered chef ice shaver at a garage sale for $2 and I'm wondering if I can run frozen strawberries through it!

I use this all the time with my fruit salad. I use apples, pears, and bananas. I take a little sour cream and brown sugar and combine it in the microwave. 15-20 seconds. Stir and cool. Add to fruit.... Oh so wonderful!

Oh man! Now you just got even with me for Kycha, because now I'll have to try that! Thanks!
