What to do with old game consoles

We're in the same boat but with our Wii and we have a ton of accessories that go with it, plus 29 games. I've tried craigslist, ebay and got no offers. Gamestop and amazon all I could do is giggle at the offer they gave me. Amazon was going to give me 1.87 for the wii by itself :rotfl2:. And Gamestop was just as bad. We just packed it up and will save it for when our kids have kids. They will have a vintage game system to play on, that is if it still works by then. LOL

While we were in a Game Stop store, ds18, then around 12 or 13, inquired about selling back an old console. I forget which one it was. Maybe Game Cube. The clerk told him that officially GS no longer buys back that particular game but if ds was willing to sell, the clerk would personally buy it from him.

I could see ds raise his eyebrows and suddenly the wheels started turning. It got him thinking this old system that he originally thought was "old junk," simply because it wasn't the latest & greatest, was actually valuable. He has always saved every game console and this was the first time he considered selling.

We still have an old SNES with Super Mario World that we've had since dh & I were first dating in the early 90s. It was ds18's first game ever so he still plays it now and then for the nostalgia of it. :cloud9:

So my long-winded point is that it couldn't hurt to ask the clerks in Game Stop if they personally know anyone looking to buy an old console. It's the gamer in them that led them to that job and chances are their friends are the same.

From the wife and mother of gamers, this is the best advice!

My kids have all the old systems. They will not part with them. Since game stop doesn't sell some of the old stuff anymore they look at garage sales for older games. Many are worth $$. Especially the pokemon games and super mario bros.

I know. I can't throw out Guitar Hero. I love Guitar Hero.

Donate! Our boys bought a new XBox, but the deal was they had to clear out their unused wii in return for us buying them controllers, games, etc. Put everything in a box (wii, controllers, games, etc) and they donated to our local charity group (similar to the Salvation Army) before Christmas during a volunteer day. The employee was so excited she called over her supervisor, took a picture of everything, explaining that it would be a huge Christmas present for a local family down on their luck since they rarely get complete systems. And we were able to get a donation receipt. My boys were so proud of helping out a family -- worth so much more than $20-40 they could have gotten elsewhere.

I SOOOO messed up last week when I sold our wii. I researched what they were going for and put what I thought was a fair price. Within minutes I had tons of people interested. Come to find out, the two game cube controllers and dozen or so gamecube games that I included were the big draw. I never thought to research those since I assumed they were worthless.

I ended up selling to one lady that was considering turning around and reselling the gamecube stuff to recoup her money.
