What to do with mid-day break?

Besides chilling out at the resort, sometimes we visit other resorts, especially at Christmas to see decorations. Take the monorail or boat to reach some. Boardwalk is another good mid-day break.

Contrary to what people here might tell you, midday breaks don't work for everyone.

We do fine if we stay in the parks all day, but if we go back to the hotel we're done for the day. For us, taking a break at the hotel is just so much more exhausting than staying in the park all day.
Same for us. We aren't break people. There are so many shows in the parks that we "rest" in the park. Ain't nobody got time fo' that! Lol

I'm still having trouble trying to decide if we should take a mid day break during our MK day. It will be August and evening EMH. We have a lunch reservation at 12:25. I cannot decide if we should arrive at rope drop do some rides, lunch and go back to the resort. Or arrive around 11:00am and stay until around 1:30am or maybe even 2:00am. My problem is I cannot not nap during the day. My dgd who is 12 can fall asleep easy but not me. I know if we want to make it to 2:00am we will need some type of break or sleep in late?

Fiancé naps I walk around the resort, grab a drink, read etc. If we go in the summer we will go to the pool on some breaks.

I have stayed all day in the parks and I always find it miserable. I need the quiet of our resort along with a nice shower before dinner and evening activity.

My husband usually works. DS and I might nap, or we just relax in the room and watch tv, check our email, read, have a shower, etc.

Glad to hear all the responses---thank you! I know in the end, it's up to our family but nice to hear what others do. I'm glad there are others who just take it easy for a while at cool attractions/shows or relax over a long lunch. I think that may end up being our best bet. We're a "while on vacation, e-mail, phones, texting, etc. is off limits" kind of family! I don't see us doing that back in the room! Maybe a little TV or DS games. The idea of just relaxing, kicking back in the room sounds great--but I know the reality for our family is going to be, "Okay, now what????"

When we stayed offsite for our first two trips we would do a lunch ADR and cool attractions/shows and use that as our midday break. But those trips were in October and March. It did work out well for us. We liked to take the train and go around the MK a few times while the kids napped.

I'm in the same boat. At first I didn't think I would want to do a break because then we would miss the afternoon parade. But now I'm thinking I'll be up at like 6 am (ADR for 8:00 am BOG) and I really really really want to stay until closing (which thankfully is only midnight when we're there). But I think the heat will get to me and I'll be over it by 5:00 if i don't get a break.
My only issue is that I think if I leave I might not want to come back lol
We also have an ADR at Kona for 5:20 so with traveling (Wyndham Bonnet Creek) it makes me a little nervous that we'll be rushed to even get in a break. I originally made that ADR thinking it would be our break from the park.

I guess it will just be a go with the flow type of thing... if we need a break then we take a break. If not.. I guess we suffer later lol

Yes I know how you feel. We also have a BOG lunch at 12:30pm and a BOG dinner at 6:40pm, so I'm not sure how much of a break we will have. I may cancel the dinner so we wont have to feel rushed to get ready and back to the park. Then again we want plenty of time in the park. I know it is going to be really hot in the middle of the day unless we are blessed with cooler temps :) So it is hard to decide what to do:crazy2:

Sometimes we would take a swim in the pool. Sometimes I would relax in the room with a glass of wine and DH would nap. I'd usually take a shower before heading back out for the night. I don't usually wash my hair in the morning at Disney - I save that for the late afternoon shower. My niece and nephew would go to the pool and/or watch a movie.

On days we didn't go back to our hotel we would sometimes take a break at a nearby resort - on the monorail for instance. We'd go to GF and have a drink and sit in the lobby and listen to the piano. Or we'd have a leisurely lunch at Kona Cafe. Basically anything to get out of the midday crowds and heat.

We've never taken/needed breaks, but this is our first August trip and everything I've read seems to push the "omg it's so hot, you need a mid-day pool break"...my plan right now includes short pool breaks in the middle of the day on every day but 2. I keep going back and forth between cutting out some pool time though...

I know you said the pool isn't your thing, but it is what we do. It's refreshing for us, even if it is like bath water. We don't have a pool at home so for us it's a win-win! We usually go in August, too, so we usually do rope drop, head back to the resort around 1, swim, check out the resort, watch tv and wait for the afternoon heat to go down a smidgen. We then go back to the parks after an early dinner at our resort/villa.

If we go in the winter then we stay all day; we only take breaks due to the Florida heat. Our kids are 18 and (almost) 14, but this has been our routine for years now.

For my kids the pool is a huge part of the vacation. It's probably a bigger deal or right there with the parks. So some pool time daily plus 1-2 days of just being at the pool is important for us. Midday breaks work for us and it keeps some balance.

We don't break. Once I leave the parks I don't go back. But I don't see what would be wrong with swimming if you insist on taking a break. It's going to be hot and a pool is the best place to be. I wouldn't take a break just for the sake of taking one.

We almost always go to the pool. Dad & I swim and Mom reads. Usually, we end up napping by the pool too. If the weather doesn't permit pool time, we nap in the room or just have some quiet time. We end up going back to the parks when we start to feel antsy and are itching to do or when out reservation time is approaching.

Well for my kids the pool is just as important a part of our vacation as the parks. There are days we don't go back to any park after coming back for a break. We go for 11 days, so we can do it at a more leisurely pace. If we did shorter trips, we probably would do things differently. But watching my kids enjoy the pool with a drink in my hand, yeah, that works for me.
