I bought a box of applesauce pouches to take to the World in a few weeks and I just opened the box to put the pouches in a different container and one of the pouches is missing. There should be 4 but there are only three. Should I contact the company directly or deal with WalMart? I'm thinking the company...

I think I'd actually take it back to Walmart. I'm pretty sure if you tell them what happened they'll probably just do an even exchange. From my experience with Walmart they take pretty much anything back without any hassle. If you deal with the company directly, it could take awhile to get a new product.

I personally wouldn't waste my time, energy and $3.50 a gallon gas to make another trip to Walmart for a container of applesauce. I had pretty much rather by shot than have to wait in the long line for customer service at Walmart.

100% contact the company. There should be a number on the box. They should make it right! Also, if there is a manufacturing issue, such as only three pouches dropped into every box, they want and need to know. Be sure to have the package when you talk to them. They need numbers usually off the package.

I received coupons for two bags of chips when I called the manufacturer of my favourtie brand to tell them the entire bag was broken chips. It could have been the store but they made it right. Chips are a big treat and it was disappointing they were all broken but they were enjoyed along with the two free bags :)

I also wouldn't bother (and I am about as cheap as they come). It just isn't worth the time/effort for one cup of applesauce. Now if this is a common occurrence or if you bought multiple packs and there was an obvious manufacturing issue, then I would call the company. But for a one time thing, I would just chalk it up to lesson learned, check the pack before I buy it.

I say the company. I bought a box of Ritz crackers and one of the sleeves was open when I opened the box. I contacted Ritz, and they apologized and sent me several coupons to use on Ritz in the future. it was worth making the call.

Definately call the company. I used to work for a call center, and most of the brand name companies that we took calls for would send out free coupons if we received complaint calls like that.

Ditto

The company - for several reasons - one being the effort to go back to walmart will take longer than a quick phone call to the company.

Another being that Walmart will just exhange it - the company will usually give you more than what was missing - even just one free pack in a coupon form will be better as you will still have the 3 from the first pack.

But honestly I would (from past experience) expect you to get more than one coupon - sometimes one free product coupon and some cents off coupons and sometimes multiple FPC's

The company.

I've had similar problems and I contact the company.

My niece found a piece of chicken bone in some canned soup. The company actually sent someone to pick up the piece. Not a huge deal as I had kept it and the can.

Both. Contact the company first...let them know what happened. Then, as long as it's not an out of the way trip, take them back to Walmart and ask for an exchange. If you do take the package back to Walmart though, go grab the replacement before you get in line at customer service. It'll save you time.

Contact the mfg. Last week I emailed Glad about a box of drawstring trash bags that did not have the strings attached. The promptly replied and sent me 2 coupons for a free box of trash bags. I got the coupons within a couple days.\\

Also by contacting the company you are making them aware that a problem may exist in a certain batch that was packaged incorrectly.

I agree with this. If it was a sealed box and not an issue that one might have fallen out or been stolen at the store, then the manufacturer needs to know for quality control issues. They will want the code off the box.

Call the company. I got some Dial hand soap once (the gold colored ones). I didn't even notice but the straws on the inside that attach to the pump were missing, so there was no way to get the soap out, short of transferring it to another container, taking the straw out of another container, or unscrewing the top. I called them, and they sent me coupons for like 15 free ones. I had only purchased 8 that were fouled up, so this was a pretty great deal. I usually just take the hit and not complain, but for some reason that day I got mad and called. Glad I did.
