Hi All,

We will arrive at the DLR area on Sat May 5th around 2 or 3pm. We have APs that are not good on Sat, so we figured we would try and do something else. Any suggestions? We were considering the medieval dinner show, but it seems pricey. Are there any other interesting places to have dinner in the area? Or we just might swim and head to downtown Disney.

Any one know how long it takes to do Build a bear? ( on a Sat?)

Thanks Lots!

We're going to go to Downtown Disney on the Saturday we get there. I usually don't leave enough time for shopping when I plan a Disney trip, and that's really a big part of it for some people (My DH can spend three hours or more in the Lego store alone). :smickey:

If you didn't want to stray too far afield, I think you can definitely find plenty to do right there!

Tour the 3 Disney hotels (PPH has a really cute lobby with lifesize statues of Goofy and other characters, and a really cute TV room with kid-sized Adirondack chairs for viewing. And of course the Lilo & Stitch breakfast is there. DLH has two shops in its lobby, and often has a character wandering around. I believe there's also a TV viewing area, but I never saw it. The grounds are beautiful, and include a koi pond and waterfall area. If you time it right, your kids can help feed the koi! There are also remote control boats that you can run (for a fee.) Restaurants include Crocs Bits and Bites, Hook's Pointe, and Goofy's Kitchen! The GCH is simply gorgeous. I would have loved to spend more time wandering around there. They have Whitewater Snacks and Storytellers Cafe for meals.

We could have spent a whole day wandering through DTD shops and restaurants as well! So much to see and do, beautiful fountains and flowers and greenery. we especially LOVED wandering through there in the evenings when there are musicians playing. Build-A-Bear, Libby Lu (if you have a DD who would love to get dolled up), the Lego Store, and of course the World of Disney store.

We would probably explore/shop in the morning, eat a fun lunch (character meal? Rainforest Cafe?), then hit the hotel pool in the afternoon. Take a little break before dinner, then maybe walk through DTD after dinner.

We did the MidEvil dinner and absolutely loved it. Definitely expensive, plan on some spending money for before the show or plan on showing up shortly before show time. They have an indoor faire type thing that ropes you in while enjoying a cocktail. Drinks were cheap tho. :thumbsup2 Wonder why? But definitely a good time.
Plan on about an hour at BAB.
If you have a little girl Libby Lu is a must do. But call them in the morning to make an appt. for the evening, maybe before dinner. That way she'll be made up for an evening on the town.
You might see who is playing at the House of Blues. I do not know if they have age restrictions. Worth checking into.

Oh, we have been in this same situation many times and finally we just decided from now on to pay the $30 and go into the parks!!

We have done almost every possible combination of things and we always end up spending at least the $120(4 of us!) on food shopping junk etc.. and we all decided that we would have rather paid and gone to the parks! Our cutoff time is 5, if we are there later we don't go in but instead have a nice dinner, hang out at the pools and go to bed early. But anytime before 5, we go in, especially when the park is open until midnight you will have a looong time in the parks.

If you think about what you spend to have a nice meal and a bit of shopping, you are already past the price of the blockout tickets and there just is nothing more frustrating than being there and not going in!!

Buildabear takes around an hour depending on how crowded it is and how long it takes your kids to pick out stuff. Mine are really slow but we always seem to get out before an hour has passed. I bet though if you asked them if they would rather do DL or BAB, they would pick the park!! The average we spend at BAB is $50 per kid (one animal with sound and one outfit with maybe shoes or another accessory) so you could buy blockout passes and have money left over for dinner in the park and treats....

We are going to hit that area around 2 pm on a Saturday as well. We plan to bum around DTD and the resorts for a couple hours, get a 5 pm reservation at Goofy's, and then call it a night. Entering the Disneyland park on a Saturday in Summer is something everyone should do once as a character building exercise. I've already had my once.

We'll be there that same weekend, and we are all blocked out on Saturday, too. Here is our list of usual choices:

1. character meals
2. DTD
3. AMC movie
4. go to beach
5. visit DH's family/home town
6. bum around swimming, wasting time
7. go to outlet

We usually get into town Friday evening, stay until midnight clost. Sleep in Saturday, and head to the beach and outlet for the afternoon. Evening at DTD.

the tv/movie viewing area for little ones is right next to goofy's kitchen. :flower:

After a very long drive to Anaheim, we hit DTD to work the kinks out and grab at bite at one of the many places. My GF can spend days there shopping.

We always go to AMC Theater in DTD and see a movie and eat at the Rain Forest cafe for dinner also in DTD. Than we go and sit in front of the big fire in the Grandcalifornian hotel and listen to there storytime and go back out to DTD and get junk food.

We always stay at the GCH we love it. We are also AP holders and have Sat blackouts and so we will go to do that or if SAt falls in the middle of our trip we will go to Knotts berry farm or universal. You dont arrive till 3 so going to a movie will kill 2 hrs:thumbsup2

Thanks so much for everyone's responses. We have a 2 year old and 5 year old, so maybe rainforest, swimming and walking around DTD.

Can't wait! Thanks

I second the option of hanging out in DTD and hotels. I could just sit and soak it all up in DTD. I could also spend HOURS and THOUSANDS in World of Disney. Gets me excited to go into the park the next day!!! :woohoo:

Our first night we did DTD and Rainforest. If you want reservations, they are not part of disney dining but if you call disney dining they will give Rainforest's number......wait let me get my cell.....17147813463. Now how bad is that?????

Believe me that # in my phone saved me one day! My boys and I were in line for the parking lot to open off of Harbor Blvd.(wrong move!) I called that # and got them to open the gates since the line was going out into the blvd!
