I HATE that they're changing the tickets now. I need your help.......

I am not going til October but have ben planning this trip for most of my life, but physically planning it for at least a year. I have rented my points and knew how much it would cost for tickets.

Now I need your help deciding, do I get PH now or wait til the new ones are out.

I had planned to buy our tickets once we had the money which would be springtime. I was planning on buying 5 day PH. We have 4 adults and 2 children plus one under 3 coming with us. I don't know if we will be park hopping, I had planned that we would since some parks closed earlier than others. I also had one afternoon planned for a waterpark, the only request by DH.

To buy the tickets now I would have to borrow money from my mother (which I hate to do) and pay her back when our money comes in. If I just waited, then My option would be to get tickets that expire or ones that don't expire but no pluses.

My feeling is that I'd hate to spend so much on tickets that will expire in case one of us got sick or god forbid we all did. That would be a lot of money lost. What if it just pours all day, doesn't leave us a lot of options. To buy now would cover all that. I would get no expiration, pluses, and be able to hit a couple parks each day. I was planning on leaving the kids in the room at night with our babysitter and DH and I hitting WS in Epcot at night and PI at least once.

Help!! What would you do?? :earseek:

To get all the options would cost more than PH's. Also cheapest place to buy PH would be - military??, AAA ???, ticketmania ???

I am staying at the BWV's, I will arrive on Sunday and leave on Saturday. I figured we'd hit the parks Mon - Fri and maybe even a waterpark on Saturday before we left. DH thinks we'll be back in another 10 yrs. His only requests were to visit MGM and a waterpark, he said he doesn't care about the rest. I am alone in my planning, he no opinions on anything. I would like to go again with my DD's in 5 or 6 yrs.

How many days are you staying, where are you staying, and are you going back in the near future?

anymore questions? I hope I answered them in my edited post.

Sorry you have to make all the decisions, I think it is a tough call. The 5 day hopper tickets on hotwire savings club are $248 for an adult and $199 for a child. I think this is the best price, although I do not know about military discounts.

The good news is that you can now get an expiring 7 day park hopper from Disney in advance for $237 and $198.

The bad news is that this does not include any plusses to do water parks or pleasure island. In order to upgrade to this you have to pay $285 and $246. If you give up hopping you can get the pluses for $248 and $208.

With a babysitter I think you definitly need hopper passes. That lets you and DH go whereever you want at night regardless of where the kids want to go during the day. I would not worry about all day rain in October, maybe a few hours but very unlikely all day. I think you can add on the non expiration feature any time before your tickets are expired, but it is an extra $55 per ticket. You can think of this as expensive insurance if you get really sick, but I would not worry about this too much personally. I do not think the non expiration is worth much if you are not coming back for years.

It boils down to borrowing from Mom vs. going to the waterpark vs. spending more money. Personally I would skip the waterpark, spend 2 more days in the park (even 1/2 days because the 2 extra are so cheap), not involve Mom, and have a great time. It is not yet clear if these tickets will be available from resellers at lower prices, so you might even do better. HTH

There is no way we can Not do a waterpark. It is DH's requirement for the trip. Not anytime else would we be able to swim outside at that time of year. Last year we had snow up here in the beginning of October.

I have been in the same situation as you are, but after alot of thinking, I plan on going with the new passes for 7 days instead of 5, adding the plus option and park hopper and not the no expiry option. I would rather have the park hopper option plus two extra days, since we will be staying long enough to enjoy this.

I think I'm in the minority here but I would bite the bullet and ask mom for some help. If I did this right you could save over $200.00 with the park hoppers that are now available. Here is what I did

Current 5 day PH plus with no expire from hotwire

Adult $249.00 X 4 = $996.00
child $199.38 X2 = $398.76

Total amount $1395.00

new MYW tickets 5 day hopper/plus and expires 14 days after use

Adult $283.29 X 4 = $1133.16
child $243.89 X 2 = $ 487.78

Total amount $1620.94

I could be wrong but, I think I did this right. I would go with the tickets that are currently available.

I agree with littlestix. I hate to borrow but would probably do so to get the tickets I wanted at current (cheaper) prices.

If you are only going to the waterparks one day, I would *not* buy the "magic plus" option---it is $45+tax for each ticket, and a one-day waterpark admission is only about $32 for adults and even less for children.

So, I think you have two options:

First, if you only plan to visit parks on the five days M-F:

5-day base MYW + hopper options, advance purchase
Adult $235.37 x 4 = 941.88
Child $195.96 x 2 = 391.92

plus one waterpark ticket for each person:
Adult $33.02 x 4 = 132.08
child $26.63 x 2 = 53.26

total cost: $1519.14

This is still more than the 5-day PHPs are today, but not by as much, so you still have a decision to make, it's easier not to borrow, because you are not paying as much.

However, if you plan to arrive early on Sunday or leave late on Saturday, then you can add one-two days to your 5-day MYW tickets for next to nothing, and then it's a clear win.

Just wait and get the tickets. I'm sure there will be benefits from buying them at your military base or SOG (even if it's just saving the sales tax). Also, it would probably be cheaper to just buy one day's admission to the waterparks from MWR as well. So plan on buying park admission only for the days you will be going and take care of the waterpark separately. I wouldn't worry about park hopping either as having the little ones with you will slow things down enough that you would more than likely stay in the same park all day anyway. Don't sweat the small stuff...just have fun!
