I just walked in the Susan G Komen 3 day 60 mile for a cure. Well as it turns out I have a stress fracture and am now in a walking boot and we leave for Disney Sunday! UGH There is not way I will be able to stand on lines and walk all day in this thing, so I ask what are my options now?

Rent a ECV or Wheelchair is your options. I would look to an outside company to rent from. It would be cheaper and you will be guaranteed to have one available to you at all times. Can't guarantee that a ECV will be available if you try to rent from the parks.

An ECV will give you more freedom to go where you want.

Check out the disAbilities FAQ's section at the top of this forum for numbers of recommended companies. Most people have found that Apple Scooters are one of the cheapest with nice scooters.

Rent and ECV from one of the offsite vendors mentioned in the FAQs. Ride it when you need to, park it in a central location and walk on rides if you want. Most ride ques are mainstreamed so you can if you choose to take the ECV up to the boarding area. Other rides you will directed to an alternate entrance, stop by City Hall at MK(guest relations in other parks) and get a guide map for disabilities, it will show alternate entrances.

Thanks I feel like a total dork because I did this. My father in law has a true diability and uses a scooter, I never thought about using one! Thanks

I am assuming the rides with steps have ways around them? I should be fine, boot is heavy but I can deal as long as I dont have to do steps.

I figure it will just be a slower moving trip then usual!

First - congrats on doing the 60 miles!! :thumbsup2

As the daughter of a breast cancer survivor - I really appreciate you doing that and raising money for a great cause!

Rent an ECV from an offsite company. It will make your life so much easier and much less painful. You could just rent one in the parks - but getting to and from the parks requires a lot of walking and standing and you will be sore enough wearing that boot in the heat.

Bring an extra pair (or two or three) of socks with you when you leave the room - because you will want to change often because it is going to be hot in that boot. :upsidedow

Have a great trip!!! You will still have a lot of fun! No worries!

If you don't ride the ECV to the ride load area and want to walk, stop at guest relations(same place you pick up the disabilities guide book) and request a GAC(guest assistance card) allowing you to avoid steps. Again read through the FAQs for more info on the GAC, you will probably find lots of other helpful info there as well.

ETA: my dsis inlaw did the 3 day walk in Atlanta a few years ago, she got a stress fracture on day 2 and they would not let her finish the walking park. So I guess stress fractures in this type of event are common. Good for you for doing the walk!!

To be sure to avoid the stairs, go to the Guest Services, and get a GAC. Tell them you need to avoid steps and they will give you a card with a stamp on it to show CM's at the attractions that tells them what you need. The CM's at the attractions will then tell you what you need to do and what entrance to use.

try to keep the ECV in lines with you - sometimes they are longer than you think, or the ride breaks down or stops and you are stuck in line longer than you think you will be. There are a couple rides an ECV cant go through, and there you can transfer to an available wheelchair or walk through the line. Check out the FAQs for some off-site rental companies!

I definitely suggest renting off-site as this will give you a scooter for DTD, the hotel, and such... It is a LONG walk from the buses/parking at AK and MK to the scooter rental, and there is no guarantee there will be a scooter there... Also the offsite ones are smaller and a little more maneuverable...

Thank you again for all the help!

Doing the 3 day was an amazing experience and I have already registered for the DC 2011 walk! Stress fracture will not hold me back!!!

As for the scooter, as it turns out I can borrow my Father in laws for free!!! Poor guy is in the hospital and will be untill we return he had to have a totall knee replacement and he told my mother in law to tell me to "take the damn scooter he dont need it!!!" I love my in laws!!!
