Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Evening all,

1. Animals shelters/charities - i have a lot of respect for animal shelters and charities that take in injured and unwanted animals, especially considering the huge demand on them right now.

2. Local nature - while I don't live out in the country, I have enough nature near me to enjoy the wildlife and animals it brings. Especially during the summer when i go out for early morning walks and can see them all while it's quiet.

3. Animal print - bit of a random choice but I absolutely adore animal print especially on clothing. I have far too many animal print skirts and dresses, I can't resist buying them!

The Rock Doves (aka pigeons) that come to my yard for water. Everybody hates them, but they are beautiful to me.
The Mourning Doves with their blue eye liner. Their little faces just make me smile.
All of the charities and organizations that work to protect our wildlife.
I have not heard that term used here in Yuma foothills...we have two flocks that I know of... one at church solar parking structure and one down the street bordering the desert... I thought they were domestic birds at one time... how many mourning doves do you have in yard at one time....we have 6 varieties

I love all the trails at Animal Kingdom. I spend a lot of time there taking photos and just watching and listening.
I love my Merlin bird app. Today it listed 6 different birds when I went out to go food shopping.
Love staying at Kidani with a savanna view. Giraffes and zebras just hanging out and my DGD calling out to them from our balcony. :)

1 Local petting zoo. It's a great place to spend an afternoon with littles.
2. Years ago I got to feed a giraffe lettuce leaves at Cleveland Zoo.
3. I got to ride an elephant as a little girl. That was a cool bumpy experience!
4. I love AK. I love walking the trails and the area around the Tree of Life. Also took the kids on the train to the petting zoo when they were little.

Columbus Zoo and the National Zoo are on my bucket list!

Today's Topic (Thu, 4/9) - 3 times you were grateful for something unexpected, rare, etc. that happened

...could be pixie dust at Disney, expectedly running into an old friend, finding the perfect dress, seeing a rare natural phenomenon... any time the world dropped a little magic on you

I count all of you as blessings unexpected to me from God. I also do enjoy the My Secret Unicorn Children's book series by Linda Chapman.

Meeting my friend S, who God-willing I will re-connect with one day soon. We had an instant bond.

I will never forget the kindness of a complete stranger years ago at a Smart and Final. God sent her to me on a very hot afternoon when I was exhausted from working at a church summer camp. Our store credit card didn't work and this kind angel insisted on paying. No name, no contact information, just kindness!

Unexpected friendship- sometimes people come into your lives and things feel tense and off but for whatever reason, an amazing friendship blossoms from the initial awkwardness.

The unexpected hosta- I ordered five roots but when going through the bag, I found a little piece that may have broken off or may have been an accidental runt that wound up in the bag in error. It’s been a few weeks and it was the only thing from the bag not peaking through the ground…until yesterday. I have a leaf!

Double yolk eggs- I’ve always enjoyed that surprise of cracking an egg and finding you have a double yolker.

Finding a friend late in life that you connect with deeply that you share so many uncommon things with- like you were meant to be there for them and they for you a true blessing

I’ve been Pixie dusted many times at Disney my last trip was a huge surprise 😳 of pixie dust the room I received I swear it was bigger than my first house 🏠 it was just unbelievable and they were just hoping I would take it - I was like can I move in🤣🤣🤣

My biggest pixie dust I would have to say it would be my car accident something that should’ve killed me something that should’ve paralyzed me it didn’t yes it cost me some lifelong harm but it did not kill me and so far it has not paralyzed me so for that much it’s a blessing because otherwise I would’ve been dead at 23

DH he has been here through the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Year of a Million Dreams promotion. Our family was gifted a fast pass to every ride at MK one morning when we got off the train.

The many times the large old trees have uprooted around the house without falling on us. Often only missing by a couple inches.

Disney trip in October 2024 with DD. It was FABULOUS. The weather was great. Every piece fell into place. Awesome MNSSHP. It was rejuvenating. 11 days later, our world fell apart.

Every extra day that God has given me with my mom.

10 years old... only one boy every year becomes the milk boy on Joshua Tree elementary 1960s

13 years old my 2 sisters and I out of 30 8-16 years old kids that Labored in the Oregon cannery strawberry fields are the only 3 selected to pick pie cherries...2026...$25.00 an hour

68 years old with great tradition of not getting a window seat south bound Coast starlight Amtrak out of Oregon 36 hours... found the car to be half full ... I told the folks this is magical 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄... this is not normal...best trip ever and the folks I helped along the way to Los Angeles....all my pen pals raved that it was my best trip essay ever...so if you want a copy...pm your address

@TiggerTrigger Hosta are crazy things! We take out 3/4 of each plant every spring and STILL end up with the 'Hosta that Ate Orono' by the end of the summer!

DISboards Pixie Dust- I met my closest friend, my "sister from another mister," here on the DISboards back in 2004, when she was selling seats on her Illuminations Cruise. DD and I took 2 of the seats, and the rest is history!

One cold January evening, I took the exit off the highway to head home and when I got to the top of the exit, the entire sky was alight in color- the Aurora Borealis was making an appearance, and I didn't even know there was a chance of seeing them that night!

I took DD to a dance competition in NH last month. We live in Maine, but I grew up in Massachusetts. I was stunned when I realized that one of the studios at the competition was my former dance studio from MA in the 1960s and 1970s! They are located in NH now. I approached the older person in the "Coach J" jacket- it was my old tap teacher, and he remembered me! Blast from the past, for sure!
