What to do? My nephew can't go to WDW.

He's really bummed out (so are we).

He's missed too many days being out sick. We leave in 3 weeks. We've already paid for the airfare and park tickets (5 WDW, 2 US, 1 SW).

A customer of mine told that the airline (I think USAirways) waived the change fee ($100) for a relative of hers that got sick just before they were supposed to go. I don't know (worth a shot) if they would do it in this case. I need to try to something with the unused ticket before the departure date otherwise we'll lose the whole ticket ($250!).

I don't know if he would be able to go during this school year or just this half. We were thinking about a long weekend in late winter (Mar/Apr) as I have some frequent flyer tickets and an AP so it would cost me hardly anything (it would be just the two of us).

I really don't want to go in the summer (June just after schools out would be the only time I would even possibly consider).

We are going again next fall for two weeks. We were thinking of trying to reschedule the flight (hopefully without the change fee) and have him come down with us and fly back by himself (he'll be 14).

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Does he have off for pres. week? We went last time during this week and was surpised the parks weren't overly crowded. We didn't go on pres. day(Mon.)went to space center that day instead. Gina

What about bumping the trip a couple of weeks to Thanksgiving? I know it's the worst time to travel, and WDW crowds will be higher, but most schools usually have a 4-day weekend, at least. Not a great idea...but maybe?

I would not use the sick excuse. They do have a policy that allows you to reschedule before the flight would leave. I would just reschedule it. Do they have a spring break?

Rescheduling really isn't an option for the rest of us because of vacation conflicts at work and we have a rental home reserved (and paid for) so finding other accommodations would be tough and the owner might not be that agreeable to change the dates. Plus, if they charge $100 to reschedule it'll cost us another $500 (there are 5 going (4 since my nephew can't go).

I appreciate the feedback but I think our only option is to reschedule just my nephew to whenever he can go and *I* will just have to go again (darn it!) with him.

Have you talked with USAir? Some of the airlines have made a change. You know have a year to reschedule after you cancel the flight if you cancel in advance and pay the change fee.

To get out of the change fee you would probably be asked to provide documentation that your nephew is currently sick. (Past illnesses don't count and the airlines have gotten picky!)

USAirways recently changed their cancellation policies, following most other airlines. You no longer have to reschedule by the departure date, you have up to a year. I believe you don't pay the $100 change fee until you reschedule. It's a $100 change fee plus any changes in fare. I would call USAirways and discuss.
