what to do? mod or value ?

DF and I are going on a quick 3 day trip to WDW in late May, to get our disney fix before we become broke college students. Well to save money DF wants to go with POP, but I am alittle nervous about the bus situation. We stayed at POR last time and I loved how great the buses were. It would be $300 more for a mod. I am not crazy about the big pop art on/outside the value building but DF also points out we will just be sleeping there. Is saving $300 worth it?

im not sure how much of a help ill be, since im in a similar situation. I originally booked POP for my upcoming stay with my BF, we just went on a cruise and i havent been to disney in 6 years, he in 15 so when i looked at a value resort stay the price was just too good to be true..so we booked it. Then i got to thinking and lurking around the boards...and i came to the decision that as much as i believe the value resorts are great ( i stayed at ASMu once) im more of a mod. girl and im trying POR this time around, for amount of money, my increase is about $525 for the 8 days we are going, i think its worth it, i feel lits much more emersed in the experience, im excited for the boatride to DTD, the theme is more exciting to me....everything basically is just more exciting to me. The savings is huge, and im still kind of torn about spending the money since cash flow is always an issue with me, but i want to have the best time possible and if spending it at a slightly higher priced resort is going to make my stay more pleasant i think its well worth the money spent, so you really need to think if spending the money on the resort is something worth it to you, or is the resort just a place to toss your head at night. if you can spend it, i would totally say go for it...but if you are trying to make it on a smaller budget then POP may be the best choice....whichever you end up with i hope you have a fantastic trip
oh and ps hahah on the busses, i have heard horror stories with pop, another reason i happily changed

The buses at Pop were better than at FQ, and it's my understanding that FQ is better than POR because we(FQ) got picked up first. Don't let the buses deter you.

If you are only planning to be in your room to sleep and shower you will do fine. The rooms aren't that much different than the ones at FQ. I was very pleasantly surprised with the room at Pop.

The atmosphere at Pop is very different from the mods, but if you aren't going to be spending most of the day at the resort it won't matter. Pop looks much nicer after dark too.

The only thing I really hated about Pop was the food court. If you plan to eat in the parks you will be fine.

Save the money!

teddygurl28 - hopefully you'll love POR as much I as did, it was awesome we had a great experience there! the boat ride was fun and the carriage ride was a nice little romantic thing we did too.

I find most of my Disney fun at the parks and basically stay until they throw me out every day. An extra $500 looks like 4 extra nights of Disney in a value resort during value season including my park ticket. I'd much rather spend extra days then have a better room, but that's just me!

There is nothing wrong with POP or the bus service there. If you are looking to save money, don't feel at all bad at staying at POP over a moderate. That's what I would do!

We're a POFQ type family. We love having the fridge and a coffee maker in our room. We also like that the POFQ is small and charming. But honestly, if we couldn't afford the mod. I would not hesitate to stay at one of the value hotels.
Be honest with yourselves, can you afford the couple extra hundred dollars? If you really can't, then stick with the POP. You'll still have a great time!
