Dh, Dd and I are traveling to Omaha this weekend for a wedding. We're thinking of coming in a day early to take in some sites. I've heard there is a pretty nice zoo there. Dd would love that. I've also heard there is a (gasp) Yankee Candle Store. (Mom is sure to love that!!!) Is there anything else that is a "must do" as we've never been there before. TIA for any info that any Omaha Disers can give me.

Save lots of time for the zoo. We went for a few hours and didn't have time to see everything!

If you had security clearance you could go visit the Strategic Air Command outside of Omaha. It's where they launch our Nuclear Missiles. You might recall that they took President Bush there on Sept 11th. I'm sure it would be a cool place to see. :)

Grew up in Bellevue/Papillion/Lavista just outside of Omaha. My dad worked at SAC, we used to go down underneath the hangers all the time. They had an underground bowling alley!! My dad has a Brick from the old runway.

I remember Henry Doolery Zoo being a great zoo, and I have continued to hear good things about it.

You could also visit the stockyards to see where those steaks come from. :D

Start tearing the old man down, run past the heather and down to the old road, start turning the grain into the ground... roll a new leaf over.

(bring a copy of Counting Crows' August and Everything After and listen to "Omaha")

We will definately have to visit the zoo. I just read on their website that they are having trick or treating for the kids when we will be there. DD will really like that.

As far as security clearance goes, that's one thing I don't have. :) So that would have to be saved for some other time.

Will definately have to check out the steaks. :)

Keep the great ideas comin guys!!

The rainforest at the zoo is just beautiful. Be sure to leave plenty of time. The zoo is large and we only saw about half of it on our visit. We were just passing through, so I have no other advice. Have fun!
